Was a great day, first group out. No wind until the second 9 which was not that strong for Calgary.

Shot a 82 today at Magrath. I love this course. Built in 1925 and still killing it today. Top 3 course in Southern Alberta for sure.

 

I know this is an old post. I'm bored today and decided to go through the Alberta thread to see who from Calgary posts in it. I can't help but comment on Magrath. I grew up on a small farm near there, before moving into Spring Coulee and then into Magrath. Elementary, Junior High and High School were in Magrath. My first golfing was part of Grade Nine "gym", and I was hooked. Love that course, and it's an absolute bear in the wind.

 

If anyone wants to do a trip around that area this summer, I'm in. Magrath (will always be my "home" course, Picture Butte (coal-pile par 3), Paradise Canyon (reminds me of GlenEagles), Land-o-Lakes, Taber, . . .

Also does anyone have any insight into if the Fred Couples course in Sparwood will ever open?

Yes, a buddy got one at Mt. Kidd on Aug. 13th

 

Super excited to get back on this course again after the flooding.

Got 4 times, May 20, July 1, July 6, Aug 24

Once the site started working it was pretty easy to get tee times but I haven't looked since to see what availability is like.

I had three rounds in this time last year.

 

I can’t see anything opening up before end of April at this rate.

A couple of folks have mentioned the league running out of the River's Edge golf club in Okotoks (http://www.riversedgegolfclub.com/mens_league/). I'm also interested in something like this, or finding a few folks to golf with weekly.

I’ve played in the Rivers Edge league for 6 years now.

 

It’s a very well run league, not ultra competitive, the course is usually in pretty good shape and the price is right.

I'd complain more but I also ski and Lake Louise was epic last week

 

edit: thanks btw, will check to see if any spaces are left in that league. Okotoks is a bit far but whatev the price is very nice

I am seriously considering the Thursday night league at Rivers Edge. It would be a good way to ease back into league play with a commitment for only twice a month.

I was on the site earlier yesterday. At that time it didn't have any 2018 info. Perhaps they are revamping it for the coming season

Shhhhhhhh. The freezing rain this morning was enough to almost kill myself several times when walking the dog.

I left Palm Springs at 39C/102F on Monday and arrived to this taken (Apr 15th) from my back deck, Sylvan Lake G&CC, #18, forecast another 5 to 10 cm on Monday .... this really sucks!

 

I understand Sylvan Lake has close to 30" of ice, it may still be there by the May long weekend.

They cleaned the snow off a couple of driving ranges this weekend in edm. It was a little chilly but nice to see a ball fly outdoor. Still 2-3 weeks before course open.

Its weird seeing grass greening on south facing lawns but 2 feet still piled up across the street.

 

Just signed up for that Thursday league--thanks Double K for the recommendation! We'll see how many of this batch of 2 dz. balls I just picked up will make it to the end of the year.
