Sm7 F grind or S grind

Curious to hear opinions on these two grinds, what the benefits and disadvantages may be for everyone.

 

Looking to switch from a 56* to a 54* sand wedge and choose between these grinds.

Also will be using this club for full and half swing approach shots as well as basic green side chips since my 58* D grind will be used in the bunkers mostly

 

I tend to have a neutral to steep attack angle

I went with F for my 50 because it is only a full swing and square faced chip shot club. And I went S in 54 and 58 because of the trailing edge relief. It gives me a couple more options, depending on the lie. I am a simple action type player. You and I seem to have a similar AOA. Hope this helps.

 

I cannot recommend a fitting (which is free where they are sold) enough. The wrong grind will not maximize your investment. Good luck!

I went 50-F, 54-S, 58-M. My thinking is I want more versatility as I progress in loft.

For my 50 degree I use it pretty much for full or 3/4 shots only.

I used their prompt for wedge selection. They advised 50F, 54S and 60D

 

Seems pretty accurate for my medium to slightly steep swing. I also only use 50 for full swings. 54 for full swings and square face chipping around the green and maybe slightly open face. And 60D never for full swings and mostly out of the bunker and short sided chipping.

I have the SM7 54S grind and the new 58D grind. Couldn’t be happier!! Also have an old SM6 58M grind. I find the D grind more versatile than the M grind, especially out of rough. D grind is essentially the M grind, but bounce goes from 8 to 12. Bounce is your friend! Enjoy!

Thanks for you input guys so far I’ve decided

-50* F grind with 12 bounce

-58* D grind

And either 54* F or S grind

The F will probably work better for me but worried about how it performs when I decide to use it from closer distances (chipping, etc.) does anyone have any on course usage of a 54* F grind?

Keep hearing that "bounce is your friend" but not here in CA with harder surfaces and not much sand in the bunkers. Too much bounce and skull city out of the bunker costing you a couple shots!

i live down near Myrtle Beach and also play in North Florida a lot with tight lies and firm conditions. I have both a 58/8 and 58/12 wedges. I can hit them both pretty well. But I find the 58/8 digs at times. When you learn how to use the bounce, it works. IMHO the 58/12 with the D grind, in which you can open it up and still keep the leading edge on the ground, is much more versatile, especially from the rough around greens.

Always wondering if it is more technique or actual equipment. I do like more bounce out of the rough and on nice lush fairways but don't have the skill or understand how to use or not use the bounce well enough to adjust! Maybe I need to rethink this by taking a couple of good lessons on short game and bunker play?????

If you don't intend to use the 54 out of bunkers often, IMO you can just go with the F grind. It's great on full shots, out of the rough, and works well chipping and pitching. I've tried the S and didn't think its relief gave many advantages over the F.

 

That's just me though- I shelled out for a 54K TVD a few years ago and LOVE the way that club handles around the green.

I switched from a 56 S grind to a 56 F grind this year. Went away from S since I never opened the face of my 56, really just use it for full shots and straight face chips/pitches. Went with the F for a bit more bounce which I prefer on the full shots and have not seen any difference from S grind when using around the greens.

52.08 f . 56.10 s and 60.12 d. Can’t go wrong w the d grind on trouble wedge

It gave me my exact combination that I was fitted for.

 

I would go F grind for a medium to steep player.

Just ordered a 54S bent to 53 and a 58D. Decided to go with the S over the M in the 54 for more knock down shots and dont plan on opening it up at all.

S grind is more versatile in my opinion. Not a fan of the F in any loft wedge.

S is more versatile. Unless you always play in fluffier conditions (softer fairways/bunkers), S is going to give you more options.
