Which of the Current OEMs will be the Last One Standing?

Ping is the only major OEM that I know isn't publicly traded so when they release clubs, they release it because they truly think it is an improvement over the previous model and not because for the sake of meeting sales numbers and appeasing shareholders.

Ping as a company we'd still recognize for all the reasons given.

 

That said, I think the name Titleist will have even longer staying power. If they fell on really hard times, that brand will live on in some way, shape, or form.

The only thing with PXG is that it’s driven by one man. Does he have children so dedicated to golf? If so you have a PING like company.

 

The difference between PING and PXG is that PING was founded by a guy who set out to design clubs, whereas Bob Parsons set out to design a brand.

Karsten Solheim was a true innovator, and left his mark on golf club design in a way that many may aspire to but only very few will achieve. I agree that his children have done well so far continuing his legacy.

 

Agree. But Karsten also had a family with that passion to continue on. Will Parsons PXG have that ?

I'd say its between Ping and Titleist. Ping because they're private. Titleist because they have such a dominance of the ball market and make their money from those sales. If they keep that marketshare up the way it is, then they can continue to make clubs on a 2 year release cycle and keep their staffers signed. But the ball drives the ship.

 

Same thing I was thinking, with Ping getting the edge due to the aforementioned lack of responsibility to the cretins of Wall Street. :D

TM is another one. They were purchased by a PE firm last year. Not publicly traded.

I would say Ping more than Titleist. If some other company figures out how to get lower spin off drivers and higher spin off wedges, Titleist will be in trouble.
