2018 Volunteers of America LPGA Texas Classic May 03-06

Recommended Posts

Just before 3:00 p.m. on Friday, the Tour announced that due to the lengthy delays over the last 36 hours and the goal of completing the tournament by Sunday night, a 54-hole tournament was now no longer possible. The Volunteers of America LPGA Texas Classic will now focus on completing 36 holes by Sunday to ensure an official event. If the tournament is not completed by dark on Sunday, it will go into Monday.

The Tour made the decision to shorten to 36 holes in part because of fog in the forecast for Saturday, which could lead to more delays depending on visibility.

There will be no cut, but only the top 70 and ties will be paid out.

The first-round will start at 3:30 p.m.

It looks like they're out on the course. It looks like the event was reduced to 36 holes because of the possibility of fog. That's the official reason at least, I don't buy it. There's also a 5% chance of rain tomorrow and 5% on Sunday according to Weather.com so maybe the event should just be canceled completely. I think it has more to do with the ability to drain the course. Being next to a lake in North Texas and with all the rain, I imagine the course has turned to mud with a layer of grass on top.

Yep, you obviously have more answers and know more about the situation than the tournament officials who are actually onsite do. Thanks for the insight.

Ok, so it is 36, but they are getting some in today?

Any chance we get any TV coverage?

Morning group started at 3:30, they won't likely finish tonight. Coverage will most likely be live cause it on a 5:30 ET tomorrow and they will still be playing. Depending on the length of the Fog delay tomorrow morning it will most like be today's afternoon group. Sunday could be interesting if they don't reshuffle to have the first 18 hole leaders at the later tee times, cause you could potentially have the top of the leaderboard and the winner not in the Sunday TV coverage lol

Not at all, this is an opinion board. I am stating my opinion. Whatever frustrations, disappointments or beefs you have with the world have nothing to do with me unless my opinion upsets you. There are truly signifcant things in the world to be snarky and sarcastic about. I wish you and all of us peace. I just want there to be a succesaful event in north Texas, that's all.

I'm about 15 minutes up the road from the course and it looks like the nasty stuff has passed. Still some light rain and it's pretty cloudy, but not horrible. The issue is going to be the course condition after 2 days of getting schwacked by mother nature.

Where about do you live? I'm also about the same time away.

Little Elm

Pass through everyday on 423. I live off Fishtrap/Teel.

Nice. where do you play?

Mainly north of 121. West ridge. Plantation. Frisco Lakes. Trails. Tribute. Got a little one now so free time is hard.

Sounds like there are enough locals to get a group outing setup.

I’m meeting my buddy at Nebraska and heading out. We are getting there around 7:30.

Y’all should come play in some of our Grint Tour events or at the very least download the app and connect with many other local golfers!!!

How was the wind yesterday afternoon? Sung Hyun had a great round, and she generally struggles in windy conditions.

Judy said yesterday on the broadcast it was calm, just the rain and the wet course condition was the problem for the delay.

Also, I give Sung Hyun lots of credit, she played Hawaii also, so she's trying to improve playing in the wind and not like some others avoid every windy event like the plague.

Alison Lee's struggles continue. No birdies, 6 bogeys, and a double for an 8 over 79. Hit 5 of 13 fairways and only 6 greens.

tonyj50, do you have any insight into what's going on with her?

Hanging out too much with the UCLA "Babe Cave" gals might be a cause. :taunt:

I believe Alison had an injury (shoulder???) a while ago....don't know if it's healed.

Maybe the guys at the event could ask her if she's still at the course....but she might not be too talkative considering she's 2nd DFL or 79 after rd 1 only to beat Lorie Kane at 80.

I plan on being there around 9.

fredpgolfer,

Despite my previous response to one of your posts, I really am looking forward to your thoughts on how the day went out there and some of the interesting things you might have observed.

No hard feelings. So far the galleries are larger than I would think AND lots of cars still coming in. Following Ingee,Aditi, and Moriya.

Following Ingee,Aditi, and Moriya.

I haven't been to an event since 2016...so I've never seen Aditi play.

Based on some stats....I assume she's a pro that doesn't generate a lot of speed but accurate off the tee. Not a great ball striker based on GIR...but seems to be an amazing putter as per stats.

Are you going to bail from this group soon to fall back and watch Gaby?

Minjee is a good one to watch too....too bad Jin Young Ko has already finished....a good rookie to watch and understand more about her game.

So when are you going to catch up to watch your favorite, Cristie? :taunt:

Have fun!

Surely given the fine weather today and them getting off to an early start this tournament can be returned to 54 holes with a cut. Looking at the time slot here for our 3 hours of live coverage almost everyone will have finished their first rounds! It would only seem fair that players who do not finish their second round today would finish tomorrow morning, then a cut with a third round to finish as they have already said Monday was ok to play if it was needed. Looks like the LPGA is quick to shorten tournaments but are not flexible enough to lengthen them again if the weather changes and time is available.

So were now starting the final round with some players having to go straight back out while others who finished hours ago start tomorrow afternoon...so the eventual winner could finish today.
