Charity Tournaments on Private Courses

TBD203

Recommended Posts

Wasn't sure how to approach this so I suppose I will be as blunt as possible... I am looking to see if anyone knows of charity tournaments and or scrambles in Connecticut or Mass that are hosted by very high end and or private clubs. I am open to some charitable donations to further my quest to play every nice course I can.

So thoughts?

right now the platform tennis association has some awesome courses on Give2Gain. The Country Club is one of them. Its not a tournament, its a round of golf.

They have a round on Old Sandwich as well

The amazing thing is that the OS round is currently bid at half the price of TCC. $700 a guy is a bargain for that round.

This is the one I am looking to try and play in. September on the Cape sounds like it could be nice.

September on the Cape is the only time to go. It's a nightmare of crowding and traffic from mid-June to Labor Day.

Couldn't be less true. Weekends on the Cape in July and August are crowded. During week is very manageable. Heck, the biggest traffic issue getting to the cape from Boston is getting through the Hingham - Duxbury stretch rather than getting over the bridges

Other than Friday nights RTE 3 traffic is bearable like Med Ma Golfer said Hingham is where the traffic bottlenecks

I will respectfully disagree with you both. My mother in law lives in Hyannisport, we see it whenever we go to visit. Traffic is worst by far on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning, but is still a PIA the rest of the week. Capable of falling into a total **** show at a moments notice.

Once school is out for the summer, the crowding is nonstop until after Labor Day. My MIL has seriously considered renting her house out for the summer and going elsewhere because of the crowding.

Lawrence & Memorial Hospital and the Stonington Rotary usually have an event at Fisher's Island each year. It is technically NY but swimming distance from RI and CT. It is also one of the 5 best courses in the US.

Well that sounds amazing too... the rotary website is pretty bad, and I couldn’t find any information on them. Will definitely keep an eye out that’s a bucket list course for sure.

Unfortunately it's sold out for 2018 but there's always next year

Here's another - this ones at Longmeadow Country Club, which is a great old Ross course - Has hosted the USGA JR Am and the Mass Open and Amateur multiple times. If think it's top 20 in Mass easy - easily the best west of Worcester CC,

although some would argue Taconic (Which is another must play - and you can walk up and pay and play there)

$250 - not bad...for a good cause - nice time of year to play...

Eastward Ho! hosts the Cape Cod Healthcare in June. I played this year and was fantastic. Plan to do it every 5 years or so.

Headed to Eastward Ho! this weekend for a hospital charity tournament. Despite the entire country being flooded it looks like we've got 4 sunny days out on Cape Cod in the forecast. Very excited to play out there, but also nervous following up my career best 18 hole round 76 at my home course by playing here.

I strongly considered playing in that tourny but never signed up. Weather looks solid. Enjoy!

If you're looking to play nice courses and don't mind spending a few dollars (which you would have to if you were playing these charity tournaments), I would look into the New England Series run by the New England PGA. There's a membership fee and the events at each of the clubs run anywhere from $130 to $300+ but they do play at some really nice courses in New England. I didn't even know it existed and definitely plan on taking advantage of it next year.

I have used these many times in the past 5-6 years. This year did:

Cape Cod national

Essex County Club

Plainfield CC

Galloway National

Hamilton Farm

Dismal River

Ballyneal

Prairie Dunes

Wilshire CC

Bel Air CC

Riviera CC

Bear Creek

Hillcrest CC

Sherwood CC

They aren't cheap but it is for charity. BTW these aren't tourney's they are hosted rounds with a member.
