question about work leagues

I just started a small golf league at work and am using a free software called fringegolfers.com to manage the league. The software makes it easy to just plug in scores once the league is set up. A situation came up where a player was in the middle of a match and got a call and had to leave for personal reasons after 6 holes of a 9 hole league. I set up the league with 10 points per player awarded for attendance, which should be a wash assuming everyone shows (subs are allowed). For those familiar with league scoring, how would you handle this situation? An additional detail is that the team is comprised of some of our big chiefs:)

Seems like it would be reasonable to infer a score based on the player's handicap for the last 3 holes. Assuming this wouldn't for some reason make any of the player's opponents angry it should be a simple and easy way to keep everybody happy.

Drop 1 round for everyone in the league (worst score) and just have this guy drop the incomplete.

Just as an example of what we do in our work league because we have had people called away as well, the round is replayed before the next week, either with the same two, or a sub for the missing player. However please keep in mind that even in a friendly work league if the other guy is having a very good night, he may want to claim his good score and possible win, so oh the fun of the guy running the league from work if you're new at it. Fortunately for us, we've had our league now for about 15 years and these situations have been clarified as best as possible based on historical events and mutual decisions in the rules.

Use whatever you do for a no-show, for those last 3 holes.

 

It's really hard to get guys to make up or continue a match, so it would be good to be able to settle the match that night.

One way would be to assign the guy leaving net par on the final holes.

For the last 3 holes:

 

Single digit handicap: 2 pars and a bogey

Double Digit handicap: 2 bogeys and a par

If he wears jeans on the course: 3 bogeys.

One 9-hole summer league I was in would let you put an X for your score on any hole which would substitute your max score using ESC and your league handicap. You weren't eligible to win prizes for any round you did this. I know of another league that has a max score of double par, so you would just get that for any hole not completed.

 

The important thing is that these rules be clearly communicated and fairly applied.
