Today will be a chill day. As expected they took all the teeth out of the course. All the people looking for a birdie fest should be happy. At this point just looking for the winner to be a high caliber player. This is the kind of setup Justin Thomas plays well in. I would not be suprised to see him have the low round of the day and contend for the championship. The telecast was poor for the week but at least they have extensive overall coverage which I wish the Masters would incorporate. Happy Fathers Day to all.

It was the same early yesterday so let’s just wait and see. The pins are definitely more benign but it will still require good golf to score.

I'm sorry. Like Phil and think golf rules lack common sense sometimes, but what crossed the line is intentionally breaking a rule. Intentionally breaking a rule should always be a DQ.

or knowing the rule(s) and using it to your advantage.

It is not using the rules to your advantage. Using to your advantage is when making a drop, dropping over an area that should produce a better lie but still within the rules.

The course is softer right now, but it obviously won't be that way in the afternoon. The back 9 still has 4-5 hours to firm up. And there are currently more guys over par today than under.

There's more than one situation in golf where you can use the rules to your advantage...

Alapabetrat plus 6 ... just to hear that drunk Diana Murphy try and say that name hammered

...

Tony F and Berger ... enjoy the introductions boys but by the turn you will be a distant memory, may not even be finished as the drunk, Davis and his governance hand out the trophy

Hey, don't you be dissin' my girl Diana!!

She's everything us men of a certain age would want, a real dream woman - good-looking, well turned-out, rich, classy and with a certain... uh, zest for living. :drinks: Just keep her well lubricated with her favorite libation and life will be good. :man_in_love:

Not there today so Im streaming... EX USGA President is on Fox making excuses for them, saying how they "misjudged" the weather/conditions yesterday afternoon. Here we go...

He also said yesterday that they cut the greens too short. I guess that's about the best you can expect as far as criticism from someone with his history.

That British guy who just called Phil an "a**" just made an a** of himself. "I'm British, I don't care." This non-issue has become such a big ordeal. Simmer down people. Dude just used Ian Poulter as an example of what is good and right.

Well it isn't a non-issue and sadly he was right about why it makes Phil look bad. I'm neutral on Phil but the second he did the after round interview and said what he said he should have been DQed. No question, no doubt and it's a no brainier. I know why he did it and can't blame him for being frustrated at the situation but he took action to reduce his score and that's a no no.

Greens look soft and receptive from the highlights? High scoring day today?

Watching this tournament reminds me more and more of a frat house party. Supposedly this iconic, historically laden venue has turned the keys over to a bunch of misbegotten, ill-behaved morons, whose only claim to fame will be a further dilution of the gene pool.

You talkin 'bout the USGA or the "patrons"??

Lol! :hi:

Somebody correct me if i mis-heard this...

Brad Faxon was talking about the skill of reading greens, and saying that the first step in becoming a great putter is being able to read greens. And that consulting a greens book was no way to demonstrate green-reading ability. He concluded by saying that he had nothing against the people whose business is producing green-slope books... but he basically took the position that the books should not be part of golf (or at least Tour golf).

Coming from Brad Faxon, and given Faxon's position for Titleist, that would be a remarkable position if it were applied to a ball-regulation dispute between Titleist and the USGA.

I have said the same thing...but I'm not Brad Faxon...lol. I think books that show how the greens break, percentage of slope, etc., take away from the art of putting. A part of the game is knowing how to read a green, not reading a book that tells you what the green does. Some say they are like yardage books. A yardage book just gives you a number. It doesn't factor in wind, elevation, etc. If if did, then it would be akin to a green reading book.

Greens look soft and receptive from the highlights? High scoring day today?

At least in the morning wave....wind is supposed to pick up this afternoon, which will dry out the greens.

I can’t see any longtime golf fan supporting what Phil did yesterday. I would not be suprised to see some sponsers slowly pull away. He could have done some damage control by owning up to what he did and offering a sincere apology but he chose not to. He could even of done so today but he chose not to, at least so far. Whoever is advising him would be wise to give him some direction in this. The setup today is more of a Thursday setup. I would not be suprised to see a 63 today. To me that’s a joke. Stand behind what this championship is. A tough test of golf where pars need to be earned. USGA caved to public pressure.

Looks like all the queens got what they wanted. Plenty of birdies to be had.

Problem is consistency. If USGA cannot do that for later groups, then they should avoid shinnecock from now on.

I bet the ground crew chief is shivering in fear. They made all the fuss about technology and how 2004 will not be repeated. Yesterday 13th hile happens (it wasnt as bad as 2004) but they overreacted and look what you get today.

Shinnecock doesn't deserve the credit and fame it is receiving

In looking at the pin sheets today and seeing the pictures of the course that don't look any better than yesterday despite tons of water, I don't see how scoring is any better today than yesterday.

For sure it will be the same. Mike Davis lies throighhis dentures this morning on GC. I predict that they totally loose a few greens today. Brian Gay All the way !

I’ve had a couple interactions with him, and more than enough with people that work around him. He’s a chronic liar, and a few of the agronomists are confused about the USGA initiatives, saying one thing for clubs to do but doing another. The best leaders go by example, until something changes at the top it won’t filter down to lower levels of golf.

That's a bold statement presented as fact, not opinion like the rest of us muppets, Care to offer an example to support your statement that Mike Davis is a chronic liar?

Over/Under for leader finishing -2 or better?

Does under mean worse than -2 in this case? If so I'd take the under.

Honestly not sure they'll settle this one today. I could see a three or even four way playoff at E or -1, maybe more like +1 or +2 if the wind blows. If someone posts -2 or better they're your winner.

This is utter BS. You don't dumb down the conditions in the last round by soaking the greens because of whiners. I hope the wind picks up like crazy.
