Can't keep the club on plane

Really struggling with keeping the club on plane - my practice swing sees the club in line (or just a hair outside) the hands at P2, but my real swing sees me underplane and with the clubhead behind my hands.

 

I have tried everything, earlier wrist set, more vertical wrist set, floatloading, less left arm rotation, less hip turn.

 

I simply can't replicate it in my real swing and that's frankly driving me crazy.

 

Is this fixable or just a move I am stuck with for life like the yips? Is it even a big issue?

Do what you did in the first picture, pause there if you have to, then complete the swing from there and hit the ball. It'll start to feel more and more normal and you won't have to pause.

How are you hitting the ball? I don't give a damn what the takeaway looks like.

 

I've seen "textbook" moves produce garbage results, and I've seen wonky moves produce Iron Byron-like repeatability.

 

Finally, your actual move has a lot more "slap" baked into the hand position. Alternatively, you couldn't swat a fly from the "ideal" position you posed.

It looks like there is almost zero hip turn in the first pic vs the 2nd.

Just work on impact and let that process help you find your own unique back swing and transition.

The rest of the sequence has to change when you change the backswing.

Have you tried feeling like your hands go in but the clubhead stays outside the hands? Put a driveway marker at a forty five degree angle to your trail foot and have your hands trace that path. Keep the clubhead along the target line for the first foot or so. I saw this drill on Dana Dahlquist's Instagram. Was helpful for me.

On practice swings you are starting with the arms/hands and the hips turn on their own in response to the arm swing. On the actual swing you are starting with the hips and arms together resulting in taking the club inside. I struggle with the same.

In the video you just basically swing your arms back and up. In the video you add rotation of the hips. You are not comparing apples to apples in the side by side images.

I really do not think your back swing is the problem, I think it is pretty good. Your transition seems a bit off where your arms get behind you, but you seem like you have plenty of space at the top, so they are getting behind you from your transition move.

Start bending your right wrist back immediately on the take away. Let that be your only backswing thought and see what it looks like
