Big island and Maui

Heading to the big island for 5 days and Maui for 6. Staying at the Hilton waikola on big island and grand wailea on Maui.

 

Curious if I should just pay to get the 2 round pass at Hilton to play there($225). And the 3 round pass at grand wailea($399). I’ve played kapalua last time I was on Maui.

 

Any suggestions?

go down to makani country club...i think it is way better than the waikola courses probably only half hour away

On the Big Island, forget the Waikoloa courses. If you have only two rounds on the Big Island I would suggest Mauna Kea and the North Course at Mauna Lani. If you can get on the Nicklaus Course at Hualalai that would be an upgrade from the North Course at Mauna Lani.

 

On Maui, the three-round pass at Wailea sounds like a good deal. Play the Emerald and Gold Courses. Skip the Blue. To me, the drive from the Grand Wailea to the Plantation Course is too far, especially if you have previously played the course. BTW, Gannon's Restaurant at the Wailea Gold/Emerald Clubhouse is outstanding.

Played Wailea Gold today...great track, solid layout, course was in great shape. This course has some gold golf holes, straight forward and nothing hokey about it. Staff is friendly, have some great views of the Pacific and surrounding islands. I really appreciated the layout and the fact that they made the most of the landscape and didn’t try to do to much with it. Would definitely recommend it!

Wailea Gold and Emerald are great courses for the value...

 

Plantation is only like an hour drive if I remember correctly... so if you're able to play there I would do that too... even with a temp green and aeration

so the mrs. is limiting my play and cost now lol. On the big island ive decided to go with mauna kea for a deal time. and on maui have the choice of 2 of the wailea courses. so are the emerald and gold worth the cost over the blue?

Called yesterday to change to plantation. Pro shop said the collars would be in rough shape, 14th temp green still in use, aeration of fairways and tee boxes, but the rate was reduced to 189 or 199. His opinion was still to play it over bay. Now if only i can convince the wife to let me play the $99 replay at bay course...

If you like "local courses" and want to fit a round in your budget. My brother and I liked Pukalani Country Club last year. It's up in the hills, so good views and a little cooler.

bay. plantation is overrated
