TM Burner 09s.

 

Learned to play with them. Went back and hit them the other day, so much distance, height, and forgiveness. Never appreciated how much they helped me out when I was starting to learn.

 

Bought blades recently, but I think I want to go back to a more forgiving, jacked loft iron set.

I had a set of those. Great irons but shaft was like an iron rod. Replaced them with what ended up as crap. And brain fart as to what I did with the heads. Still have the one iron thought. And yeah it was an wrx-er one iron.....350 down the middle with a slight bend.

What is your all time favorite set of irons or sets of irons?

Top Flite Tour Midsize irons 1994-97. Easy to hit and control and they were set-up - decently at the factory. I'm either playing these or various classic blades.

Strange as it is, I love my TM Burner Plus set. I just put them back in the bag.

 

In the past two years I have played Adams XTD A Tours, JPX-900 Forged, Wilson C200, and my old Ping S59s. I just keep going back to the Burners. The just hit a perfect little baby draw. They feel like I am hitting pillows.

Mizuno MP-32's. I have never had a set but a buddy I used to play with all the time had them. He would let me hit them quite a bit, absolutely beautiful clubs and amazing feel. If I ever find a decent set on ebay I might have to get them and just see how I could do playing a full round with blades.

That was one of the best combos that I ever put together.

 

Would love to get them refurbished one day and put them back to good use. Still haven't found a shaft that worked as well as those for me.

I got a set of these when they came out and I could not play them. Straight up & straight down. Went nowhere. Into the wind I hit 5-8 iron the same distance. Totally unplayable for me. And I was soooo excited about them too.

Nicklaus N1s around 1991. First clubs I owned during my first golf lessons from a pro. Played 16 years before that with a homemade golf swing. So my clubs before that were tainted. Any change after the N1s are tainted by less playing time due to family life changes. But I wouldn’t change that for more time on the course,.......sometimes.

Tommy Armour 845m silverback blades. It was the set that I learned on. Second are my fly z pro's, but you only have one first love.

The ones I've loved the most when I had them but just didn't have the game for was Tommy Armour 845C/M mixed set... the last or the pre-RAM Armours, a great Maltby design, a very soft forging, and a steal on closeout for $225 for the set. I even had the matching staff bag, but I didn't have the game for that either. The irons were sold on for some GI components since I went through a club building phase, and the staff bag stored spare clubs in the garage for a decade after the dog got ahold of it on a stormy night... finally trashed it when cleaning out the garage and saw how much rust had developed on the buttons/zippers/rings/etc.

 

The set I think back to most and probably should still be gaming are the Mizuno JPX-EZ Forged... I just couldn't get over the chunky look of the Pw and Gw. If I could have, I'd probably be shooting the same or better and wouldn't have made 3 or 4 iron changes in the last 12 months. I'd buy them again, but the KSOUTH9 deals dried up and they sell for 30% more now used than what I paid for them new in January '17. I think they're probably one of only two brand new sets of non-component irons I've ever purchased in almost 20 years of golfing.

 

The best deal I've ever got and also should probably still be gaming are the Mizuno MX-200... $85 for 5-PW and another $18 for GW from Global with some crazy coupon codes in VALUE condition, but barely a bag ding on them. I think I traded them back to Global for about what I paid for them and it was still a bad move on my part... they would have been much better suited as backups, which I've also changed 3 or 4 times in the last

Callaway X Forged (the first ones, 07 i believe)

 

Titleist 690 CB (no dot). They were a blackened finish. I have no explanation why I sold them, other than the fact I used to love getting new clubs.
