Another poster mentioned albarino, I'll second the notion of giving that a try if you haven't. I've had a couple Spanish ones that I really enjoyed. Last one was a martin codax I believe. Solid wine, fair pricing.

Albarino is becoming a very popular California wine. They grow some excellent albarino grapes here in San Luis Obispo County. You can see the vines from the driving range of the local country club!

 

My sister and brother-in-law bottle some under their Mattina Fiore label. It's served at Stave Wine Cellar at Spanish Bay Inn.

 

In Paso Robles last February I had a really cool white wine - Ugni Blanc made by Paix Sur Terre. But my "new" favorite white wine is made a little south of you is Malvasia Bianca made by Larner Vineyard in Los Olivos. The wine is extremely refreshing - it has an essence of peach in it that I find unique.

Huge wine drinker here and as a former restaurant owner, we were fortunate to sample a slew of great wines. Like many others, also a pinot fan. As an every day Pinot, you can't beat Meiomi and for nicer occasions, Fan of Flowers, Saintsbury and McMurray Ranch pinots. Have a bunch of Turley Zins sitting in the cellar now and looking forward to enjoying those at the holidays.

It’s really funny how taste buds change. I used to swear by Meiomi. It was my “go to” Pinot Noir for awhile, and now I can’t stand it. I used to be the same way with Zinfandel (red, not white). I’d drink any of them, and anything made by Rosenblum was my fave there. Now I just can’t drink them. Weird.

Meiomi is big here, it's a nice California Pinot that is relatively inexpensive.

 

Not my favorite. I'm not crazy about California reds to be honest. But I get it, it's great value if you like the region

 

My "cheap" red is usually a cloudline, 23$ for a Oregon Pinot is as good as you can do here

If you can find some Carlisle zins, give them a try. All old vine stuff.

 

IMO, it's nearly impossible to find a good QPR California pinot. Rivers Marie has a good sub $30 bottle if you can find it. There is a much better selection from Oregon. Lots of small labels - a few off the top of my head - Hayden Fig, Vincent, Longplay, Evesham Wood, Cameron, Franny Beck, Johan, Goodfellow. And Patricia Green has a wide range.
