Tiger Woods testing a TaylorMade Ardmore 3 putter - new photos added

That's not the bronze Ardmore 3 TaylorMade is advertising on its website.

On the website, the "red" Ardmore 3 looks like that one, but red, while the "bronze" Ardmore 3 has a plumber's neck ... weird.

TW’s is the red one but painted black. I think...

Hence my continental reference

All TM has to do is take some of their red Ardmore 3 inventory and paint them black like TWs. Instant profit.

Have we heard the weight in this Ardmore? His Nike was sub 330 grams

He had a pair of 2.5 gram weights in it if that helps. What is stock for the Ardmore 3?

It's 350 with 10 gram weights. So I guess Tiger's is around 335.

Tiger's stroke is pure. He could putt with almost anything. It's just a confidence thing with him.

I agree. He’s looking to regain that comfortable feeling. I don’t think this putter, in terms of offset, weight, is a radical change from what he was playing. He kept some things pretty much the same. Just changed things up a bit in search of a boost.

That's right... You too can make your very own TW style Ardmore Slant neck putter. Buy the Red or Red and White Adrmore 3, send it to Continental for a black paint job and have them paint the black insert Red ( if that's possible). It already comes with a slant neck so no custom welding required.

I was curious as well if I just had the red striped off mine and made it like the regular silver tp putters

Only problem is that the insert is not the same. The insert in the red is plastic, and metal in the black copper. Didn't notice this until today, and the feel is a lot different. Much nicer feel off the metal insert. Don't know why they don't use the same insert in all the TP putters.

Ahh... Intriguing.

Did not know about the two different inserts... That puts a huge damper on the Red Ardmore 3 conversion.

It's certainly not advertised that way, and if you order a customer putter you can get either red or black colors of the same insert.

How does that work? I was just at my PGA Superstore the other day and was looking at putters. The new red putters have the same insert as the Spiders. The Black Copper one’s had a red metal insert. I don’t know about the new Red/White ones. I don’t know of a way to choose the insert even if you do customize it online.

I certainly can't say that you're wrong. I haven't asked TM, etc. but...why do you think the red insert is metal? Nothing advertises it that way. The only inserts that are advertised as different (firm surlyn) are the Spider Black and Platinum.

Okay...maybe they are aluminum covered. If the are, they both are..it's just color. Look at the insert on this release...

What a sell out

It's funny you say that... I was thinking that tiger must have literally hundreds of putters in his home. He probably has 50+ Scotty's, 100+ methods and countless others. My point is, why this putter? Is he really more comfortable with the TM putter? Awful convenient

This isn't that hard to figure out. Tiger has an existing equipment deal with TaylorMade. He's always been good to his sponsors, so likely gave his primary equipment sponsor first shot once he decided he might be open to switching putters. I'm sure he told them what he was looking for in a putter and asked for a few different models to try, then he settled on the Ardmore 3 after testing and liked the performance enough to put into play. Had he not found anything from TaylorMade that was to his liking, he would have probably put something else in play. I believe it's that simple.

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, TaylorMade has been awfully quiet about the putter change. To my knowledge, they haven't made a single post about it on social media, this site, or anywhere else that I've seen. If they had anything to do with Tiger switching to a TM putter, or if there was some contractual obligation he was under, you can bet they would be making a big deal out of this. To me, the silence speaks volumes. Tiger wanted to try something else and asked his sponsor for options. Simple.

Great points. My response was kinda tongue in cheek, and you are correct when he switched to the method 003 it was all over Nike social media. Maybe TM thinks/knows he won't be keeping it in play? Or was it an agreement all along to create a "quiet buzz" about their line of putters?

I didn’t know that. The insert in the black copper has a shiny red finish to it, and the feel is much nicer.

I have the Ardmore 2 L Neck in red, and I am really doing well with it. The number 2 Ardmore has some toe hang to it, which I was looking for in a mallet putter. I changed out the stock weights which I think we're 5 grams each and put 15 gram weights in. I have used mine all this season and haven't got a nick on it yet, of course I'm very careful with it. To me it's a great putter.
