Tiger Woods testing a TaylorMade Ardmore 3 putter - new photos added

Recommended Posts

I would love to know the exact quantifying of the Tiger effect in relation to this putter and know how many of these putters have been purchased since last Thursday.

the exact style is not available yet

That's completely immaterial to the discussion of sales. Since when have we been able to buy exact versions of most tour putters at retail? What matters is whether or not people are buying the model most similar and whether a player putting one into play caused a noticeable bump.

As I'm sure you're aware, there are two versions of the Ardmore 3 available right now: a red and a red/white. I was just in my local PGA Tour Superstore today and the red Ardmore 3 that had been there for quite a while was gone (it was there as of this past Friday). Could be complete coincidence, but I have a hunch plenty of these have been sold over the past week.

I doubt that golf shops throughout the world were flooded without Ardmores before Tiger got his mitts on one.

There might be a slight spike in sales but it will be a pimple on a pumpkin in the scheme of things.

What a sell out

It's funny you say that... I was thinking that tiger must have literally hundreds of putters in his home. He probably has 50+ Scotty's, 100+ methods and countless others. My point is, why this putter? Is he really more comfortable with the TM putter? Awful convenient

This isn't that hard to figure out. Tiger has an existing equipment deal with TaylorMade. He's always been good to his sponsors, so likely gave his primary equipment sponsor first shot once he decided he might be open to switching putters. I'm sure he told them what he was looking for in a putter and asked for a few different models to try, then he settled on the Ardmore 3 after testing and liked the performance enough to put into play. Had he not found anything from TaylorMade that was to his liking, he would have probably put something else in play. I believe it's that simple.

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, TaylorMade has been awfully quiet about the putter change. To my knowledge, they haven't made a single post about it on social media, this site, or anywhere else that I've seen. If they had anything to do with Tiger switching to a TM putter, or if there was some contractual obligation he was under, you can bet they would be making a big deal out of this. To me, the silence speaks volumes. Tiger wanted to try something else and asked his sponsor for options. Simple.

In regards to your 2nd comment I agree the only "marketing change" I have seen on this putter was Taylormade had it right on the main page when you opened up the website (the black copper version anyway). What's even more strange is they usually pimp every product on their social media pages when a player of theirs is playing something new or does well. And a T4 finish for Tiger would have been enough to get a mention after the way he had been putting before the change. But nothing. This kind of makes me think that even Taylormade figured this might be a short change on this putter and wants to wait to see how it plays out before saying anything.

Taylormade has everything to gain with Tiger playing one of their putters and are a marketing machine when it comes to this stuff. If I was a betting man I would bet you will see a black copper version of the slant neck Vault release after the Open if Tiger bags this putter for the Open. It will be a slightly different version of the retail models, maybe a match to his colors and insert. But I would be shocked not to see this in the next couple months from TM.

i'd never heard of the ardmore putter until Tiger used it..since then i have checked out ebay for one just like that..but as someone said..there just aren't that many out there for sale. That could change..he did miss a 2 footer with it though lol. So i am not sure i want one

I don’t know about the retail putters matching Tiger’s exact specs, and I don’t think his specs should matter to the rest of us, but the various Ardmore 3 putters for sale are pretty close to the putter he used last week. Not enougjn difference to call them completely different. You can buy the same head and hosel in red right now. I don’t think TM is being deceptive.

To follow Scotty Cameron’s lead - inspired by tiger woods, it will be a black spider version

and i'd buy the s**t out of it. I love the ardmore 3 and have contemplated buying it 100 times, but i just cant do the red finish

If that is the only thing holding you back, then simply buy it and send it to Continental golf.

Problem solved.

Golfers who are inspired to purchase a TM putter he is using most likely won't run out and buy it. When it comes time to purchase a putter or when shopping in DSG they would lean towards the style he's using. Nike didn't sell a ton of methods when he switched but it did make me the general audience consider or at least look at a method.

This is somewhat anecdotal seeing friends who are casual golfers that picked up a method to roll right away in GG when they saw one after tiger started playing one.

I had two buddies look all over for them. ZERO to be had. They couldn't give them away at Golf Galaxy or Dick's. We have folks calling our store for them as well, and we can't get ONE for weeks. Crazy man.

Makes me LOL... Just because one of the greatest golfers/putters in golf history chooses this putter people automatically think oh I'm going to buy it too and maybe I'll putt like Tiger Woods.

Just an idiotic mindset.

Little do "these" people know, they aren't even getting the same putter as him anyways.

Most likely a different insert and weight.

But shhhhhh.... Tiger's using it, it must be identical to his right? ?

I wonder if he's tried anything other than a pingman

There was a story not that long ago that he tried some of the Superstroke style grips but it was more the the feel of the softer grip vs the size that he didn't like. I tried finding the story for you but have no idea where on here I seen the link.

Tiger knows. I have never cared for those spongy, big putter grips. Always feels like I am putting with mittens on. The Pure round grip is my favorite along with the smallest Flat Cat. The Ping pistol grips do feel better to me than the superstrokes.
