Very curious to know what the "fill" is going to be... could Ping enter the hollow distance market with a fail on feel? I say that based on knowing that Ping had to be well down the path with the i500 prior to the release of the G700... I know there's a lot of jello-fill hatred out there, but Ping was integrating soft inserts to enhance feel a long time ago...so someone tell me they're going to get it right?

In the other four or so threads about these clubs most people in the know said there is nothing inside the club other than maybe hotmelt for swingweighting. Same as G700.

In my G700's there is a bit of rat glue in the hollow heads and then the tip weights are 1g. The weights come out with a normal torque wrench just like the ones for switching shafts on a driver.

I would imagine the 500's would follow suit.

That's not "rat glue" that's a proprietary material - Pertex (sp?) you just think it is rat glue by the way it looks, smells, tastes, functions, tube it came out of, etc.....

With that said... I cant wait to get mine... I love the look... dont care if it has rat terds as the filler if it functions properly

What are these a replacement for? The 790's aren't a players iron and these look like they very much are.

I have seen these first hand and they are awesome. these will be an Iblade replacement. the face is the only part that is forged.

These look like slightly longer blade lengths than the P790s. The P790s have wider soles, but their blade lengths aren't all that long. I have both the P790 and the i200 and the blade length of the i200 is quite a bit longer. I think that makes the i200 more forgiving than the P790. The top line of this Ping iron looks smaller than the P790. This Ping club is going to be interesting.

Quig,

these i500 are not the iBlade's replacement. they will be a category unto themselves.

after today I will/can confirm the club is recognized as having the offset of an iBlade, and the sole width of i200/i210.

edit: the heads were left hollow to allow more weight to be moved to locations around the perimeter of the club head, there will be talking points of tungsten in toe and heel for increase MOI.

What about blade length? Iblade or I series, or please Ping let them be longer than both.

I'll throw $175 per stick out there as the retail price.

I was thinking $175 - $200 price range.

well after today, I'll confirm $162.50 in steel.

Source? Thanks in advance.

Soooo, the last Ping iron played was the i10, since then I did play A4 Tour, Scratch EZ/AR mix set, and then AP2 710-716 and now the 718, but damn on looks alone Ping may have won me back.

The one thing that scares me with all these strong lofted irons is that if I were to get a new set of strong lofted irons, it would then F' up all my other clubs gapping (if a pw is around 43-44*). I'd have to get an all new set of wedge lofts for gapping, and then hybrids too would need to be changed. I'd probably have to lose either my 3 or 4 hybrid and then add an extra mid gap wedge and then carry 5 wedges due to a very strong lofted PW. That's what kinda puts me off to these "strong distance players irons". You then have to basically change 4 other clubs to adjust for the iron lofts.

Does that make sense to you guys too?

Ping is going to start advertising "retro specs" for lofts. Just the opposite of power spec
