Has anyone hit the 3i yet? Debating on adding one to the current i500 set....

Love is a strong word to use in this instance, but... Love the three. Still dialing it in, but it's solid. High bombs off the tee, still working on elevating off the deck but distance is consistent, and it's kicked my 3 hybrid out of the bag completely, and is longer anyway.

How long is it taking to get them? I ordered mine with 105’s on August 8th.

You never know when the dreaded “back ordered” raises its ugly head, but I ordered mine a week ago Wednesday and they had arrived one week later on Thursday. Eight days was pretty amazing.

I ordered mine today. Estimated delivery date...

Sept. 15 ???

Apparently it’s a shaft issue though. No 9 iron or wedge shafts in the Nippon 105’s in stock.

Wow, dude, sorry to hear it. It seems like it happens with every new piece of equipment that becomes popular. I will tell that the wait will be worth it. These irons are freaking awesome. They are LONG. They feel fine when struck well. I was at the driving range with my wife last night calling my ball shape and hitting it, fades, draws, high, low... I could make the club do what I wanted. Even though they come advertised as low spin, I now have 45 holes in with them and they stop right next to the ball mark. These may be the best irons for my game that I have ever tried. I am giddy.

“After hitting this sleek, blade-style iron you'll be amazed at its incredible speed, distance, and towering trajectory, with stopping power that gives you a real competitive advantage“

The advantage is that your playing partner will be shell shocked at the horrible sound your brand new irons made they will probably shank the ball. These things sound so bad.

They must’ve spent all their time fixing the sound of their woods instead of working on their irons also......disappointed for a “forged” club....

same in the 8 and 9

about the same as the iBlades in the 4/5/6 if I SMOKED them and got a good roll, and no wind. The i500 is a great flight, and it goes what I hit it for... fantastic

7 is shorter than the 7 in the iBlade, and the flight is kinda goofy.... I have hit it "on the screws" probably twice now and it went 175... but i have a crazy time hitting it, whereas the rest of the clubs seem effortless.

I really think something is off.. maybe the lie angle "didnt take" when Ping adjusted them. it looks a little different, but it also feels a little different I am going to have all them checked with loft, lie and swingweight.

good to hear the distances between them are very comparable. i may just go iblade.

You can prob check the swingweight at your local GG. As for the lie angle, use the Sharpie test... you know the rest.

Hope you get it figured out.

i hear ya..

But im not going to bad mouth the i500 anymore. I sound petty at this point if i keep saying the same thing in the same thread.

I don’t hear the bad sound that so many talk about. It may be because I am not all that tuned into sound, but to me, the i500s sound and feel fine.

Ditto. No idea what they are talking about. I have played these irons a half dozen times since I got them, in different foursomes, and there hasn't been a single comment about sound. Yet I read these comments, again and again.

I have the graphite shafts and I play a four piece ball, so maybe these things are a factor. And there is a click if I hit an off center shot, but I don't hit a lot of those.

I came from iBlades. Do these clubs sound a bit different? I suppose. But louder? Not really, except for maybe on the clunkers, and i'm not even sure about that. These are the best hitting clubs that I can ever remember owning, and I've owned my share over the years...

I am sure some of it is the head combined with the shaft I have, but I agree with all you said. These irons are fabulous.

Took mine out to the range yesterday and course today. Love the way these react on the course and are over a full club longer than my Mizuno's. Used to hit my 8 iron 150-155, had 156 uphill and stuffed a 9 iron.

Now, yesterday at the range I heard the click people have talked about. I did NOT hear it on the course with better balls.

Another observation... hitting a ball on the course is not going to send sound back to the ears in the same way any reflective surfaces would at a range. Whether that's nearby concrete, bay barriers, a roof, whatever. I notice this a lot with my driver...

Only thing on the range that could reflect any sound is grass, a cement cart path 50 yards away and an office (think small house; our real estate office) about 70 yards away.

Crap balls and repetition. Individual strikes with my 790 UDI on the course and I never felt it was 'loud' as such, but hitting a bunch in a row, at the range (wide open and grass), you start to hear it more after a while.

Amazing how polarizing these are, right?

Straight hate or love. Hilarious.

Still Loving them. Played again Tuesday, ball strikers day, hit almost all shots well, including (warning: self brag ahead) a 200yd 4iron out of the sand over a 3ft lip to within 15ft, on the front of the green. Grounds guy gave a nod and a quick golf clap. I just have that level of confidence with them.

My thing is that I have never had a set of irons give me this much transition trouble. But once I get them “right” they are going to be money. I have the long irons dialed in. 7 is different for me. So that is my only problem. As 3 of our 4 par 3s are a 7i. And I generally have 3-4 more shots with it during the round. Lots of 175 yard shots. Really need this one to come around. But when they are flushed. I love them in every way.

I murdered out the shafts and thought that might be an issue so I took the wrap But now that I am getting them dialed in I will probably redo the wrap.

Cuz as a gator nut.... it looks awesome

Got fit today and will be ordering a set soon.

Ended up hitting the i500 with a LZ about 10-12 yards longer than my G25 CTaper combo (that I've gamed for years) and they seemed just as forgiving on the Trackman, because I hit the ball terrible (haven't played in about a month, so great time to get fit for a $1k+ set of irons right?) and still got very consistent 180ish yard 7 irons. Launch not really any higher, spin similar, just higher ball speeds and longer carry/total. Can't argue with it.

NO idea what all the talk is on sound, they sound fine to me- But I do hit the ball in the face. Maybe that's your issue with the sound, you cant hit the center of the club

Listen on this video- sounds great

https://ping.com/media/videos/2018/ping-pros-test-i500-irons

Good point. Maybe some of the reports of noise are coming from players who aren’t consistently hitting the ball in the center of the club. Something has to account for how these irons seem to be Dr Jekyll and My Hyde, from a sound standpoint. I don’t think it is range balls, particularly. The range I practice at uses Pinnacle balls, and I don’t notice any loud sounds. I play a four piece ball on the course, and nobody has ever said a word about these irons being noisy.

And if these irons do produce a louder report on a bad hit, is that not a good thing for people who are enamoured with the old muscle back, forged clubs (not me). Forged clubs players want lots of feedback, no? My memory of forged clubs is that my fillings would rattle and my joints would hurt from off center hits. These irons wont do that, but maybe there is something to be gained, sound-wise, if they are louder on off-center hits. Hadn’t thought of that.

For the game I play, there is no advantage to “forged”, if forged means the old fashioned muscleback clubs. However, since I am of the forged club era (and have the loose fillings to prove it), I really appreciate the clean look of a forged club - compact head, thin top line, minimal offset. I love that look, it makes me feel so much more confident than when I first found myself standing over the Ping Zing, grin. These new i500s give me that clean, old-time look, and it is great.

I was not in the market for new clubs, at all, but I thought 'what the hell' and hit the 7iron Tuesday. I'm now awaiting my set to arrive. I have a sneaking suspension they will bring some additional fun into my game.

I had the TMB's when they first came out and sold them off soon after due to a dead feeling when struck. I expected the same from the Pings, but was pleasantly surprised when they felt great, no deadness at all. They're not Mizuno's, but they're not the TMB's either.

EXACTLY! They don’t feel/sound good when you mis hit it, but what irons really do?? When struck solidly, I take no exceptions to the feel/sound.

7 iron with 6 iron length and loft...

That hit it as high as your 8 iron. What matters more; the angle on the face of the club, or the angle the ball gets hit in the air?

Why does everyone want to hit their irons so high? Don't get excited. Just a legit question.

More precise distance control. Roll out has so many variables to it, if the ball rolls out it’s harder to control the end point. Just think, if there are bunkers st the front of the green (often) and a front pin, it’s nearly impossible to be close with a good amount of roll. If you can stop it close to the landing spot, nothing on the green is more than target shooting.

Descent angle. Most players don't get enough, and thus, the actual result tends to be more random. Mine go too high, and spin too much on occasion, so sometimes I get a 9-iron that spins back. It's frustrating, but you have to get that right. Should be about 41-45º for most.

I'm a pretty good iron player, and prefer to hit my irons low. I have never owned an iron that i could not hit high when the shot called for it. I look for a combo that produces lower flight that can be hit high rather than the opposite.
