DJ, He's the only player on the cusp of 20 wins (16 since 2010) with at least a Major, and with some modicum of consistency.

Β

Rory #2 maybe. More Majors, less consistent. You could make an argument to swap the two, and I'd probably agree!

This is a tough one, Rory's resume is undeniable but the consistency factor just doesn't seem to be there. Don't get me wrong, when he's on he seems unbeatable! It just seems like Rory's bad seasons are pretty bad while DJ is usually hanging around for the majors and WGC's. I know Rory plays in quite a few European events, but I personally would give the nod to DJ. Again, its tough to pick just one with today's talent pool.

The answer is either Rory or nobody.

There is no reasonable argument for DJ, who has far fewer majors, fewer worldwide wins, fewer weeks at #1, fewer major top tens, ...

Rory earlier in the 2010's, DJ later, I don't think it's decided yet. If Spieth finishes 2018 strong and does well in 19 strong it could be him.

Nobody deserves the label. Guys win a major and the media crown them the next coming of Jack or Tiger. Hogwash. The recent crop is too erratic. Win once and miss a few cuts and on an on. Nothing I have seen matches Tiger's run from 2000-2010.

Β

That wasn't the question though.

Still 6 majors left before 2020. For all we know Brooks Koepka wins all of them. If he does that would be 8 majors including 3 US Opens. So it would for sure be him.

Β

If not just in terms of feel i think Rory has been the "it" golfer more than anyone else this decade. But i think the next majors will probably determine since one of the big names will do something

It works better if you go by decades starting in the middle.

1945-1954: Hogan

1955-1964: Palmer

1965-1974: Nicklaus

1975-1984: Watson

1985-1994: Faldo?

1995-2004: Tiger

2005-2014: Tiger

2015-: ?

Β

Year end World no. 1 from 1986 to 1994. Interesting era.

Norman was World no. 1 for 209 weeks during that period while Faldo was 97 weeks.

Β

But Faldo won 5 majors in that period to 2 majors for Norman.

2010 to 2018.

  • McIlroy - 4 majors / 95 weeks at No. 1 / 14 PGA Tour wins - 4 FedEx tournaments and 2 WGCs / 15 top 10's in majors / 2 time PGA Tour money list winner / 1 FedEx Cup champion / 3 time European Tour Race to Dubai winner

  • Johnson - 1 majors / 67 weeks / 16 PGA Tour wins - 4 FedEx tournaments and 5 WGCs / 14 top 10's in majors / 1 time PGA Tour money list winner

  • Spieth - 3 majors / 26 weeks / 11 PGA Tour wins - 1 FedEx tournament / 8 top 10's in majors / 1 time PGA Tour money list winner / 1 FedEx Cup champion

  • Day - 1 major / 51 weeks / 12 PGA Tour wins - 1 Players, 2 FedEx tournaments and 2 WGCs / 14 top 10's in majors

Β

It has to be McIlroy up to now.

Β

Rory has more wins than DJ if you count European Tour which is only fair because Rory's PGA Tour time was limited in the early 2010s. 4 majors to 1 major is a massive gap.

Β

Also DJ is more consistent now but there was a time where he was an underachieving player with some bad personal habits. He did take 6 months out. It's a long decade. DJ from 2015-2018 would be slightly better than Rory. Rory from 2010-2014 would be miles ahead of DJ.

I don't disagree, but for the long stretches where Rory was nowhere to be found. DJ has always been hanging around in there with a win in every year. But like I said I wouldn't disagree with a Rory vote.

It isn’t one player. And surely not Rory. It’s a 5 headed player at least

Β

Β

But I agree , if I pick one it’s Spieth. He still could finish out the decade and win a couple more majors. Rory doesn’t want to anymore.

If Jordan adds another Major it will be hard to argue against him (especially if it’s a PGA Championship, career grand slam within the decade). Otherwise I could be swayed Rory or DJ.

Β

Adding another major wouldn't be enough to pass Rory.

He'd have the same number of majors, but fewer and less impressive regular PGA Tour wins, far fewer worldwide wins, and less time at #1.

Β

Rory is the leader by far. Maybe not dominant enough to say it is "his decade", but there's no reasonable argument for anyone else.
