Low spin is all relative. I am a low spin player. Pretty much the same spin numbers you are seeing with the Apex irons. I had them, no problems sticking the greens I now have the Rogue Pros... again, as you can see in the pic, no issues sticking the greens. This is a 7 iron shot...

Lol you guys are silly. Conditions play a huge roll in holding greens. Is it soft where you are, what kind of greens are they, near the coast or more midwest/central etc. I hit it high and hold greens easily but in fl with poena the greens held much worse....same dude and clubs. 500 rps with 6i won't break ur game but what was it doing before? Did you always have this issue...if so yes the lower spin will compound

So I recently got fitted for the callaway apex cf16 irons because they were so much longer than my gamer ping s55's.

6 iron average carry went from 167ish to 180ish while launch angle stayed at 17.

This is all well and good and seems like a great upgrade except my spin with the cf16s averaged 3955. I feel like that is really low. Approaching unplayably low for a 6 iron.

Granted the spin on my s55 was only 4500 avg, so I'm not generating a ton of spin anyways.

Question is what can I do about this?

Go apex pro or epic pro or something like that?

Put in a higher spin shaft?

Stick with it and see if I can actually hold a green?

Any thoughts are appreciated.

I have the clubs. I was fit last October and have taken them in and out of the bag over that time. While "longer" isn't the key to irons, hitting a 180 carry with the same height as a 167 carry gives you a lot more pins that are attackable (if the spin is there). Really hard to compare iron to iron on a real course. Even if you had an empty hole and could multiple balls, no two shots are the same. So I'm left with launch monitor data provided above. Where did anyone get the idea I haven't hit them yet? Also what can I provide to quantify my on course data? They didn't do a great job holding greens at torrey pines, but those greens are elevated and hard and you're hitting at them from a long ways out becuase it plays 6800 yards. At maderas (very tight) I was able to hit irons off a ton of tees because all of a sudden 4 iron/6 iron is all I need on a 380 yard hole. But I've seen some balls roll out or bounce off in places I thought it should have checked up better and I guess I got all caught up in optimal launch and spin numbers and my 3400 6 iron is nowhere near the 6000 recommended. I also don't believe I have a peak height that justifies it. I know there's a 60 page apex cf16 thread where people complain about gapping and sound and whatever. I didn't want to get involved with preconceived notions from people's own apex experiences. In retrospect i should have listed it as club A and club B.

The apex have a really tight dispersion due to the low spin, and the badass oban shafts... I didn't question dispersion at any point.

So thank you for your help, I think your main point is no one on this site can answer me, I have to answer that myself. Which may be the answer, but there's so many knowledgeable and insightful people on here I figured someone had similar experience and could offer advice on what they'd done in a situation where their spin rates were far off optimal.

I switched over to the Apex Pros for this same reason. They’re not as long but they stop on a dime. Could be the shafts as well. Went from KBS Tour stiff 120’s in the CF16’s to Recoil 110 F5’s in the Apex Pros.

I am a low spin player myself. However, I did a fitting and went with a high launch and higher spin shaft (Nippon 950GH). I have no issues in the wind, and I can hold greens without an issue. We do have firm and fast greens at our club. Conditions, as mentioned above, play a major role. I played a friend's club this weekend with really soft conditions. I was sticking my 5 and 6 iron approach shots. Don't freak about the numbers, just play your game and see what happens.
