Dollar Driver Club??

I agree with j-rob... $180+ to "rent" a driver then upgrade and pay more to play the most current model when it becomes available until the next hottest club comes out? Many of us spend that (and then some) on extra golf equipment over that span of time but the model seems a little out there. In any event, to each his/her own.

I love golf

Just heard about this from a post in another golf website ( M. G. S.) and it's very intriguing. Rather than shell out $500 for the latest and greatest, I could just rent a new driver ($25 to $30 per month) and when something even "better" comes out.... go for the upgrade. This way I'm never behind the latest technological advances because, as we all know, the newest models ALWAYS go at least ten yards farther. :taunt:

People who lease cars so they can always drive a late model will love this. I'd have to do the math. My fear is that if I actually knew how much $ I have wasted ho-ing drivers, this deal might be cheaper. I still think shopping the used market would be a smarter way for me to waste thousands of dollars. I'm cheap enough that I can wait a year to get a new offering.

I'm not a fan of subscription models bc I just want to pay and be done but this could work for someone like me who lives in Michigan with a short season. I could get the newest driver basically for 6 months then cancel for the winter and get a different one in the spring for $180. The model isn't for everyone but it could work fir some people.

It would make more financial sense to buy a driver at the beginning of the golf season and then sell it at the end. Rinse, wash, repeat. The depreciation of the driver, assuming you don't wreck it, would be less than the amount you'd pay to rent it. I think the subscription model only makes sense if: a) you can't scrounge up $500 up front, or are unwilling to put it on a credit card. and/or b) you don't feel comfortable selling used clubs.

Can't comment on the product, but played golf with the guy who founded this last week. He lives here in Austin, was a great guy, and a damn good golfer.

He had a few drivers in the bag and was letting the other players in our group test them out. I couldn't, but I asked him about options for someone like me (play driver 2" over. I'm 6'9" with short arms),and he said they can order different specs and figure out how to accommodate just about anyone.

Cool idea.

This week, the PGA Tour is at TPC San Antonio on the Oaks Course for the Valero Texas Open. GolfWRX was on-site Tuesday to catch a glimpse into the bags of some of the world’s top golfers.

The field of 144 is getting ready to battle starting Thursday for the $7.7 million purse, with $1.386 million going to the winner. The tournament is also the last event where players can qualify for The Masters, just like Canadian Corey Conners did last year.
