The passive brag thread

MtlJeff

Recommended Posts

Sometimes you do something and you are frustrated even though overall you have done a good thing, It is difficult to post these things without them being seen as a "passive brag"

So , why not have a thread where we can all passive brag, without fear (LOL, no seriously, there will be fear) of judgement or mocking.

In the past four weeks, i have on 4 occasions come to the 18th hole with a <10 footer to shoot 72 and missed it. And in another i shot 72 finishing bogey-bogey.

Good rounds, but still very frustrating.

Lay on me your very good but still not good stories, you arrogant punks

Last week I shot my 2nd negative differential with a 2 under 70. Had a skulled chip across the green, hit a 6 iron when I meant to hit a 9 iron and was on line with the pin but ~40 yards too far, and had to chip out sideways because I was right behind a tree. Never thought one of my best rounds would have so many bad mistakes...wish I could go back and redo those shots

I woke up and looked in the mirror, and saw a message from my wife that said, "Thank you! XXX"

Oh, and I play blades....

(wait...that wasn't passive...darn)

In a recent Publinx match I broke my own course record by clutching it on 18. 470 par 4 needing birdie to break it and I managed to rip a drive down the middle and stick my approach to 4 feet. Upsetting because I had a left a few shots out there. Narrowly missed a 12 footer on a tough par 3 9th hole to shoot 29 on the front. Also rolled a putt that was tracking dead center with perfect speed that hit freaking Bigfoot’s spike mark and hopped straight left causing a miss. Then midway through the back 9 I made a terrible bogey with wedge in my hands from 50 yards on a shot that was hole-able. I flew it too far barely over the ridge in the green that I was trying to use as a backstop, 3 putted from the top tier :-( Potentially could have been 2-4 shots lower if everything went the way I imagined it.

*side note- I have recently been playing my best golf in my life. 18 of my last 21 rounds have been par or better. I’m currently trying to figure out where my recent success is stemming from

-2 through 15 holes...16 is par 3 all carry over water...hit a rake in/near bunker that bounces back into the water. 17 hit into a fairway bunker and land in a foot print 18 hit a cart path that bounces in to long rough. Finish Triple Double and Bogey. Final score 4 over...All well and good but had not shot under par in 20 years.

Late start to the season, then rain, fewest rounds I've played in many a summer, working on some stuff from a clinic, means I'm struggling a bit with consistency and having trouble breaking 80 as often as I would like so it was sweet to card a 79 back on June 26, which was probably inspired by playing on the Old Course.

(Tried to make it as passive as I could)!

Oh, and I golfed in jeans (at BRORA!).

This is fun, but a little awkward - folks get excited about anything golf, I actually love to read about it!

In tournaments, I once hit 17 GIR and shot 85, and another time hit 3 GIR and shot one under.

(You’ll notice the perfection of the classic “passive brag” in these two examples. It seems like I’m expressing an embarrassing story putting into question my abilities, until you realize that there is very commendable aspects to each story. The problem with ThunderBuzz is he’s just flat out actively bragging).

3 man scramble last weekend. Dogleg left par 4....360 yards. Partner #1 cuts the dogleg with a huge left hand cut over the trees that lands on the green and stops 15 feet away. Partner #2 drains the 15 footer for eagle and a $660 skin for the team of which I got my $220 share. My contribution? I cheered real hard for both of my partners after starting us off with a smooth 220 yard 3 wood out to the corner of the dogleg. Oh, and my socks matched.

As Richard says, It ain’t Braggin if ya Done it! :)

1 under with 3 Gir is damm impressive! I shot a 90 last year with 45 putts on a course that had the fastest greens I’ve ever played on.
