Best equipment change for you this year

Changed more equipment to see what would help. The XR16 is an amazing 5 wood for me, super confident with it. I also went back to the BB OS irons, and a real toss up between them and the M4 irons. The BB OS 9 iron is on target, nice feel, but the M4's are so long! The Fusion driver and Heavenwood are solidly in the bag. I also put the Ping Redwood back in the bag. It has so much feel as I can make adjustments easier with it.

Taylormade Spider Mini. At the start of the season I had no confidence in putting. After getting the Mini. I was mad when I missed anything inside 6 feet.

I made two equipment changes in 2018 which improved my index more that 2 shots.

 

Added a full set of TM 790 irons to the bag.

 

Changed driver shaft to an x-stiff flex keeping the same model shaft and same driver head.

Biggest difference was the G400 5 wood lofted down to a 4 wood. My fairway wood play has gone from the worst to the best part of my game thanks to this club. An honorable mention goes to the i500 irons in retro loft.

I tried out a 33” putter on a whim. I loved the feel and touch I had. I cut this Newport down and put 10 gram weights in to lighten it. It has been a game changer for me. I’ve never putted better.

 

Before this, I had always used heavy mallet putters and struggled with speed control.

Switched from Ltd to an epic driver. Also switched from a regular to stiff shaft. Never actually hit on a monitor and got numbers but once I did I realized that I should’ve been playing stiff flex since the regular tended to be all over the place dispersion wise and launch was high. Little bit lower launch with tighter dispersion with stiff.

917d3, f2, and 818h2. All proved to be tremendous additions. Will have these until my skills diminish further, which could be anytime really.

Going from Ping back to Callaway. Have been shooting my best scores ever all late summer and fall.

Added a Callaway Big Bertha Diablo 2hi in stiff and dropped the 2 iron, suddenly gave me a par-5 approach weapon and an accurate tee club for 300-350 yard par 4s.

Edit: I forgot, I also switched from Taylormade Burner Plus irons to Hogan Apex '99 musclebacks, that was a big deal too.

Back to a hotmelted R510tp driver from various 460 options, much better control over tee shots without the occasional high right block that would show up at most inopportune time with larger options.

I switched from the TP5 to the TP5x this season for better performance in the mid and long irons, and also slightly better performance in the wind. Very happy with the change.

Mizuno JPX 850 to 917 D2 with a Whiteboard in it, ridiculously accurate and has seen my FIR rocket and scores tumble. Honerable mention to dropping 4 iron for a 23* G25, look forward to a 200 yard approach now. . . Kind of!

Dropping hybrid (19* PXG) in favor of driving iron (TM UDI 2i) - messed up my gapping but first time in years I’ve had a club I feel uber confident will find the fairway

I dropped around 20 yards across the bag with 2017 clubs at beginning of 2018 due to fibromyalgia. Went on a journey, first lighter shafts which didn’t work, went a little heavier in driver and worked on hitting up more. Hybrids I went to rogue x, fairway woods went for 59 gram regular to 65 gram regulars that are stiffer and got most of it back. Now irons were a mess, I just hit two less most of the year but had gapping so had a 7 and 8 hybrid.

 

Finally went cobra f7 one length and got more distance in the 8-sw. Lighter head, same weight shaft I normally play.

 

This year I’m not sure, going graphite in irons. Either in my Cobra F7 or F9 but they need to be 100-105 grams.

 

I went long per length shafts for distance and that has worked. Also putter. Playing 36 now.

 

I like were my bag is at, just need more cushion on joints.

Switched from a odyssey 2-ball to a #1 o works blade. Tough to putt with a putter that doesn’t match your stroke. Night and day difference between the two.
