Are These Tip Weights?

I just pulled the shafts from my CB 3i and my T-MB 3 iron and found these in the tips? Are they tip weights? If so, how do you remove them? Heat or drill them out? Is there any way to tell how heavy they are? Right now the S400 is weighing lighter overall than the S300 with same weight grips on them. Thanks for the help fellas :)

Yes they are. Likely lead so heating and pulling them out may or may not work. If not, then it is drilling them out. You can weigh the shaft as is and then if they don't pull out and you have to drill, you can weigh after and that will give you a rough idea of the tip weight.

Do you start the drilling out with a smaller bit and then reem out the sides or work your way up to a bigger bits until it’s all gone? I don’t want to remove any shaft wall.

It's steel. Not to worry. I can't remember off the top of my head, but there is a common drill bit size that fits just nicely inside a steel shaft tip.

I would not drill them out. Drill a small hole in the center where the epox filled the vent hole and then find a wood or sheet metal screw that you can drive into the hole (not too tight). Then heat the shaft with a quick blast from your torch and pull the weight out by pulling on the screw with some pliers. The weight will come out and you can reuse it as needed during a future build.

I’ve taken this approach before and it works like a charm.

I use a grip cap saver tool with a 5/32 x 47 inch ramrod. Heat the tip up and just push the weight out by pressing it into the ground

Most of the time the lead tip weight would just melt and drip out.

One of them is part-way out already...just put the shaft in a vise and grab it with the tip of your pliers and it will probably pull right out. Same with the other one. If they are tight, apply a little heat, but not too much because those are lead weights and could start to melt. Sometimes these weights will stay in the hosel when pulling the heads, but it's not a big deal either. If they won't be re-used they can be drilled out easily since they are soft, or a little heat and they can be pulled out with a needle nose.

+1, I usually just run the screw in and pull with pliers. Don't overheat or you'll melt the lead!!
