Anyone try using GPS to find their Ball?

For those who have trouble finding their ball in the rough or after a blind tee shot, I had a thought the other day and wondered if anyone has tried this. I figured why can’t you use the shot tracking feature on a GPS to find a stray tee shot? As long you know how far the club you hit goes and the direction it left the tee, you could just use the tracking feature and walk to that yardage and your ball should be in that vicinity should it not? Has anyone ever tried this? I have a hard time finding balls in the rough and this seems like it would work better then guessing where it went from the tee box.

Sorry if this isn’t the place for this, I wasn’t sure where to put it. My apologies if that’s the case :)

I use the shot distance on my GPS watch to find wayward shots. I know my mishits go about 20-25 yards less than good shots, so I start looking as I approach that. Helps me quite a bit finding those bad drives.

That’s exactly what I was thinking, you’d know how good of a piece of the ball you got so it should make finding shots you didn’t see land or shots around corners easier.

Could work if there were no trees :)

More than anything, it helps me not look too far. When I get beyond my full distance, I circle back around to look.

Or to make sure your looking far enough out there, it’s harder to judge distance back to the tee the farther you get out there and the ball doesn’t always come to rest where it looks like it does from the tee. This could be a useful thing. Someone should make an app, point your phone in the direction the ball started, pick the ball flight(Hook, Draw, Straight, Fade, Slice) and pick the club you hit and press go, phone guides you to where the ball should be. :)

Definitely. This is one of the biggest reasons I use GPS, because I am pretty sure it saves me at least one ball a round that I would have given up on because I was way short or way long of where I should be looking.
