Evidently Brooks is "Yoked, Ripped and Jacked".....Orly?

He might have a problem with salt in his diet thus giving him that "puffy" look.

It happened to Val Kilmer and Kirstie Alley.

I think they had other problems with their diets besides salt. Like tonnage.

I have the same issue. I actually am going to my first Weight Watcher meeting tonight at my doc's suggestion.

BEST OF LUCK. Exercise - you must exercise.

I'd actually say he's pretty strong. Anyone who can deadlift + squat + bench 300 is pretty respectable, not world-class powerlifter or anything, but better than 99.5% of people in 99.5% of gyms. Benching 300 is by far the most difficult of those three.

How much does BK deadlift?

Not sure. How much does the Wannamaker Trophy weigh?

yea water retention and also he has a good amount of fat on him from trying to pack on size in the gym which would require a cut. Doesn't really matter unless your into bodybuilding, he's just trying to get stronger looks like

Carrying a lot of water weight is probably a good idea when you spend 7-8 hours on a golf course often in 80 degree plus heat..

Cutting all your water weight is great for a photo shoot when you want to look shredded but not at all necessary for Brooks' day job.

yea not at all necessary, it's not all water though. He's got a good amount of fat on him too, in the 20% range. It's from trying to pack on size and strength in gym.

Thanks! I know, right now having some lower back issues. Difficult to straighten up fully, painful to walk. Hard to think about exercise at the moment. :dntknw:

TV makes people look way bigger than they actually are as well

Can concur. Brooks IS a big dude, but he's not this jacked monster people say he is. He walked right by me at the US Open. Thick guy with some meat, but not some ripped hulk that he's currently being made to be. DJ is also much skinnier and wirey looking. Biggest surprise out of any pro for me was how tall Jimmy Walker really is, and how small Tommy Fleetwood is.

I was surprised how tall Rose is in person.

You have probably been told this or already know this but having a strong core takes care of the majority of lower back problems. You will also get more results from proper eating then working out when it comes to loosing weight. Lot of people say going to the gym is the hard part but imo eating properly is the hardest part. Need the calorie deficiency. Stay strong, with your end goal in mind; wont be easy but think of how good you will feel at the end.

Thanks, Gulag. Got to get a handle on my self-defeating pattern: being too heavy & knowing I need to eat better & less makes me feel depressed; when I feel depressed my reaction is to eat. Wish I was one of those people who reacted to feeling depressed by not eating.

The tight shirts that he wears, is what has given this attention. Most any stocky baseball player would look similar in the same clothes.

All he would have to do is go to a more relaxed fitting shirt...and the questions about "not working out as much" would follow.

all you gotta know about the situation -- jason day wear's adidas MEDIUM polos...

I've been working out for almost 20 years and can honestly say i can't life heavy within 4-5 days of playing and feel 100%. I'm not saying i can't play but i notice a difference when i'm completely recovered vs not. Hard to imagine hitting the gym hard before a round.

That is one thing I will give these guys credit for. I've been a competitive powerlifter/training as such for close to 22 years, and even now (although I'm 40), I can't truly go hard in the the weight room (granted, my hard is much different than theirs) and swing reasonably well for days after, much less the same day. I can stay in the 3 plate range on bench, 4 plate range on squat and deads and swing fine, but anything near 3 rep or 1 rep max, and I'm toast for golf that week. So I don't know exactly how they do it and keep sharp on the course.

The modern research and trend has been for Higher frequency with lower volume workouts. Different from the more traditional lower frequency - higher volume, which produces a lot more soreness

same I completely change my workout for the golf season and for days I'm playing ... On a few occasions went right from the gym at the course and then went hitting balls. To me, my feel in my hands was soo different for putter and wedge. If I did squats it would impact my turn for the next day.

On the other side of the coin, I don't have a trainer, massage therapist, cryotherapy leg boots etc ... so it's not exactly an apples to apples thing... either way pretty impressive stuff

If you do an internet search for "high frequency workouts", you'll get a lot in depth info.

The basic idea from the research and studies that have been done, is the traditional "body build" way of training is not optimal for most people. Even for non golfers, whose priority is just to get in great muscular shape.

So in general, if someone has traditionally worked their chest or legs for example, once every 6 or 7 days for a really hard high volume workout....instead try working them more often (higher frequency) but with less sets per workout (lower volume). Maybe work chest every third or fourth day, but with only enough volume so that you'd be ready to work it again in a couple days....not feeling broken down.

They've found that soreness is very overrated, in terms of how beneficial it actually is for getting the full benefit from the exercise. You don't need to be broken down for a couple days after to get the most out of workouts. Especially as an athlete who also wants to be in shape, but functioning at a high level most of the time

Another thing I noticed in the Claude Harmon III picture that showed him benching was he was at planet fitness on a Smith machine. Benching 225 14 time in a Smith machine is nowhere near as impressive as flat bench. Just throwing that out there, he's still a buff dude.

was in a Smith machine??

225 14 times in a Smith machine is roughly 225 8-9 times on a flat bench.

A little off topic... but let's talk Rory. The dude is incredible. It was so cool to watch Thursday and Friday and see Justin Thomas swing out of his shoes... hit it 320, then see Rory FLY it 10 yards past JT's ball.

Most efficient swing on Tour. 5'9", 160 lbs. and leading the PGA Tour in measured driving distance.

Appears to be effortless. All time great turn, balance, rhythm, and use of the ground.

whats debatable, lol,

anyway, it's always funny how some of these guys come in the threads and mention how these guys fitness is nothing compared to what they see everyday in their gym.

“In an average day, I’m spending about four to five hours just on my body,” Koepka told Men's Health in the week leading up to the Super Bowl. “I think any professional athlete has to (take care of their body).”

Golfers have traditionally avoided hitting the weights too hard for fear of how it may impact their game — namely, that a big change in strength could mess with their stroke they've spent years perfecting, or that it could mess with their much-needed flexibility. “Whenever someone says that increased strength makes you less flexible, I always point out gymnasts," he says. "They’re all incredibly strong, and obviously extremely flexible. It’s all about how you take care of your body.”

Nevermind the millons of $'s these guy have and the professionals they are working with.
