Anyone else putt better with a cheap putter?

I picked up a 10$ Spaulding TP Mills TPM 1 that is butter. Not my Gamer but I seem to putt more consistently with it.

I collect old Spalding TPM's. None of them cost me more than $20.

They all feel beautiful to putt with. Every bit as good as the Scotty's, Machine, Lajosi and Ping putters I have.

 

 

 

A good strike (and you'll know when it is one) with a #7 is a religious experience.

 

I've went back to the future, putting the NC Sub 30 / 30 back in the bag last season, and have been a lot more consistent on the greens. While the putter itself is ok, finding a installing a [Lamkin Deep Etch] grip that works with- instead of against - me and the putterhead is even more important.

 

I hit a #12 Spaulding that was a religious experience.

Surely when it comes to putting, price doesn’t matter. It’s finding something you’re comfortable with that gets the ball in the hole and practicing.

 

I currently use a 2014 fastback I’ve had since new, but regardless of what I use it’s the 15 minutes I spend practicing three nights a week in my hallway that makes the difference for me. My last twenty games I’ve averaged 30 putts a round and it’s just from practicing rolling a ball into a tee peg.

I'm a Ping user and game with a steel Zing 2 but I have a Spalding High Efficiency I that I picked up a few years ago when I was getting back into the game. It was 3.99 at the Goodwill and it still does the trick.

I remember when I first started to golf buyinh a nomad brass mallet putter for $25 from our pro shop. I probably was the most consistent with that, than anything else. I wish I could remember what it was called. I did buy a bettinardi (Hogan) and have had it ever since...

I got this from a thrift shop because I was amused by it, and for giggles hit a putt across the floor. For 10 feet it followed a line in the floor tiling. That got my attention, so I putted back on a different line. Same effect. Straight to the register and $7.95 later I had a new MacGregor putter from a long time ago. The only thing that kicks it out of the bag is a similar styled Hogan that is an inch longer.

Mine is a secondhand Yes! Pippi-12 Black (center shaft), $30. Just two rounds so far, at the end of the season, 34 & 29 total putts (my only sub-30 round). Compared to Bettinardi iNOVAi 3.0 CS $300 new, avg 1.9 putts per hole for the season. Only rounds over 2.0 were with a Studio Stock 2 (paid $200 new, later traded).

The Yes! might not see much time in 2019 either, having just acquired THREE new center shaft mid-mallets. #itsadisease But Pippi will remain my wet weather & travel putter.

Absolutely! I still putt with an old Ping Eye-2 I got 7 or 8 years ago from my grandad which I think you can pick up on ebay for less than $60 now. It's a brilliant putter and nothing has even come close to replicating or replacing the feel I have with it.
