IMO Caves Valley was 100x better of a course and of an experience than Congressional was.

But I think I got crushed before for saying that.

I'm pretty localized here in MoCo, so this just looks like a normal list of courses we all play. I bet one of the guys that live north and east of me could provide a more balanced list of courses that include B-more, HoCo, and PG County.

- Worthington Manor

- Whiskey Creek

- Waverly Woods

- Blue Mash

- PB Dye

If it was area-wide courses, I'd throw Laurel Hill in right below Whiskey.

The last official public list I saw had Rocky Gap at #6 I think - which may be one of the most miserable courses I've ever played.

1 - Worthington

2 - Blue Mash

3 - Waverly

4 - Whiskey

5 - Bulle Rock

I get that a lot of people still like to trash on BR but despite the distance and cost, I always seem to have a great time playing there. Haven't been in a few years though so no idea what the current condition is.

> Musket Ridge is a divisive pick at number 1. I have to get out there and play it again some time soon. I recall not liking the overall piece of land it's on, leading to holes that didn't really mesh together. But there were some nice individual holes, great views, and conditions were good.

Agreed.

I have such a hard time with that.

Because, for instance, I like Bulle Rock enough as a golf course, but I don't care for staff, and we've had bad memories there. And, I don't think they let you bring your pushie. So, no.

And, I love Pine Ridge, but the pace of play sucks, the conditions suck more often than other places.

I like Whiskey quite a bit, but the price sucks.

I love Waverly obviously, but you can't get breakfast there.

So, price no object, me and 19 friends, teeing off at 10 AM, breakfast, no one in front of us, middle of October, firm and fast and not patchy, some combination of. . .

Worthington

Waverly

Whiskey

Pine Ridge

i enjoy courses that are both fun and challenging and that have a mix of short holes and long holes. i rank courses by which course by the criteria of "where i'd be willing to spend the money to play" and "if i had my choice today of what course to play i'd go here":

1) Waverly Woods - this is my favorite course in the state. public or private.

2) Whiskey Creek

3) Rattlewood - i probably have to explain this. You want to drink beer and hang out with your friends? Rattlewood is for you. You want to play a tournament on a course that can crank their greens up to a 10? Rattlewood is for you. Rattlewood in tournament conditions is amazing.

4) University of Maryland

5) Blue Mash

2nd to Last Place - Northwest Park

Last Place - Lodestone

I do not get the recent rise of threadhate for Northwest. Its definitely the MD course I've played the most over the last 6 or 7 years. Its super cheap to walk during the week. Its one of if not the most walkable course on any of these lists so far. Conditioning is usually decent for a moco course - although have not played there this year. Driving range is decent for a county course. But you probably are playing 3 rounds for the price of one at Whiskey.

Make sure you get in your entries for the Mark Garrett Memorial Open. 10/20 at Gunpowder.

Aiyyer will be captain of whichever team he winds up on.

I laid out about $70 in prizes, so this will put a nice dent in that.

Thanks to all who bid.

I go back and forth on those two. I probably should have put BM ahead of WW. I think the overall layout and walk-ability gives BM an edge over a housing project course.

SD card is on its way to the Best Buy repair facility so I can bent over the table and forced to pay a large ransom to get the pictures off of it. The Geek Squad geek was about 50/50 on whether it could be done since the card is corrupted. Wife was happy, even if she is still a little teary about possible losing all of her pictures. They took their time and talked, commiserated with her which the Verizon guy did not. If they can get it to work, it'll cost me several hundred bucks.

BTW - My son and I played Poolesville Sunday afternoon. 2pm tee time. $29 to walk, $34 to ride. The course was empty. We played a 3 1/2 hour beer round (small softsided cooler in the cart basket) and that was with searching for his ball every hole. He plays about 5 times a year, hits it hard, but everywhere.

Speaking only for myself, it's the decision to ordain that thou shalt not be allowed to enter or play a ball out of the un-mowed areas, many of which lie well within the usual area of play. F that place.
