I've been avoiding hitting my 4i, so something needed to happen there. I got the DG 120 s300 in the CBX PW, and I like it a lot. It's noticeably lighter than the normal s300.

Big gap between 4 and 5 iron, and that distance comes up so infrequently that I don't care, but a 4i that I was confident in swinging would have worked well on #4 and #11 at blue mash last weekend. Hit 5i on #4 to the very front of the green, and 3h on #11 that would have been long if it didn't plug in the fairway mound between the green and bunker.

I've thought about it, and even tinkered with a blade for a bit last off-season, but don't think I'll ever go back at this point. I may not be as monogamous as 2MT would like me to be when it comes to putters, but I think I'm at least destined to stay on team mallet going forward.

You guys are learning!

Ive been through all of that. Daughter played travel softball, son played club hockey. Just about every weekend taken up. It was fun! My daughter burned out on softball her senior year of high school and dropped her travel team. My son dropped hockey after his senior year high school season. They both had no desire to try to play college. I don't remember, or want to, what all of that cost, but it was substantial

Both worked in high school. My daughter interned at NIST in Gatihersburg, my son worked at the hardware store in Damascus. We had an extra car (my parents old Camry) that they shared, along with my wife's and mine. We got another car when my daughter was in her sophmore year in college.

We had a college fund, but it wasn't huge. We didn't start it until my daughter was close to 10. Not many people did that back then. I told them both that we would pay for undergrad. Any grad school would be on them. I used UMD as the cost model. There was some wiggle room, but I wasn't/couldn't send them to a blue blood, pinky in the air school. Both wanted to go into engineering and loved VT. It cost a little more, but not ridiculous. Now, I am working some extra years, paying off the loans. To me, it is worth not having them crushed with debt coming out of school. My daughter in law has over 100K in loans from law school. Brutal.

Bottom line - you do what you need to do and manage it as you see fit. Some of our friends did what we did. Others paid partial college up to certain amount. Others basically put everything on the kids as soon as they graduated HS. Your call on that. The main thing, though, is to enjoy the ride. there is a lot of stress, time constraints, money constraints, etc. But, watching them grow up and become adults is pretty freakin cool.

Enough times to find an SAT prep course!

Usually it’s me fooling myself. Blades look better, the pros play them, and they have all sorts of nice custom hardcovers you can fit on any of them. The results aren’t there for me though, and I forget that in times of weakness when I’m having a bad streak with the mallet.

I did - no regrets yet.

"Yet"

I'm really digging the old Anser 4 so far.

"So far"

Side benefit - I also like that there are way more nice headcovers available for blades.

I do it all the time. Several times a year. I like the look of a blade much better, but when it misbehaves, I go to a mallet for a different look

Blades:

Scott Newport 2

Ping Redwood Anser

Odyssey Protype iX #1

Mallet:

Odyssey Black 7s

Scotty Futura 5.5M

I realize that may not be the handholdy, wrap your kid in bubble wrap thing to say these days but kids have a remarkable way of figuring things out when they get kicked into the deep end of the pool. Sadly these days, I dont think that happens all that much.

>

Speaking for the folks that DC described in his post.

No AJGA events. No SAT Prep. No Free College. Job at the course in HS so I could play for free. Gamble at said course on the weekend to make extra money.

Community College + golf scholarship =free, or close enough to free, 2 years of college and some playing experience

Private College + golf scholarship = $30k in debt (which happens to be alot less than alot of people)

Haha Dad started out with "I'll pay for college." Couple years later it was "I'll pay for half." Couple years later..."Have fun paying for college son."

It all works out at the end. Would be a huge advantage to have $0 in debt but you play the cards you're dealt and try to make smart decisions on where you spend your money....like on a full new set of sticks!

[Tomorrow is national taco day. ](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taco_Day "Tomorrow is national taco day. ")

Without knowing that, I made chicken and steak tacos on Sunday, and had enough left over for tacos for lunch on Monday and Tuesday. On Tuesday, I heard about national taco day because it was taco Tuesday. Then yesterday, I went out to eat with the work jerks, and decided to have tacos again. I'm cooking salmon tonight and I have some tortillas left over so I'm going to have some salmon tacos for supper. If I do that, there's no way I'm not having tacos on national taco day.

[burritos are indeed tacos. ](https://www.texasmonthly.com/food/burritos-are-indeed-tacos/ "Burritos are indeed tacos. ")

I actually like how the first commenter lights him up. Calls his take "book smart". The same ingredients in a different form can become a new food. A calzone is not a pizza. And, you need to recognize common usage. Everyone knows what you mean by "burrito" and "taco" and they don't mean the same thing.

NONE OF THE BELOW IS DIRECTED AT ANY SINGLE PERSON. . .

As much as I lack perspective because I don't have kids, I'm always amazed at the lack of perspective about certain things from people who grew up around here, never left around here, and still live around here.

The first place my mind goes is, say, a kid from my hometown that doesn't have access to nearly the same resources as kids down here (tutoring, coaching, connections, access to private schools), and even if he did, doesn't have the financial resources to access it. That kid is in direct competition with kids from here for the same opportunities.

Median household income county by county in Maine hovers around $45,000. My county is $45,973. When I graduated high school, I think 55% of my graduating class went to college.

Median household income in HoCo and MoCo is $110K and 99K respectively (PG County is $73,000. PG COUNTY!!! The average county in Maine has median household income roughly what Baltimore City does). I don't think people appreciate what that means. Sure, they know people who make less money than them, but they don't know what it's like to be from a place where every single person has that much money. Sure, C.O.L is lower in Maine, but it doesn't scale like that (when someone makes $40K and pays $1000 mortgage, and someone makes $100K and pays a $2500 mortgage, that is NOT the same thing). Besides, iPhones cost the same, food costs the same, gas costs the same, TV's cost the same, internet costs the same.

I really think some people down here have no idea how rich everyone is down here, or how easily they could be with a couple different decisions.
