Since I haven't watched one second of golf/golf highlights from this weekend in Japan I would have no way of knowing what the course looks like. So it was interesting to read that every hole on this course is built with two greens - one with a warm weather grass and one with a cold weather grass? WTF? They know there are hybrid grasses they can play on year round right? Talk about not worrying about wasting water or maintenence time or you know, other resources. For anyone thats watched, does it look bizarre on tv?

The "rest vs rust" stories that pop up in every sport every year are among the dumbest. People saying the lay off would hurt the nats are just filling time on the airwaves.

 

1) "they got a lot of rest and it really helped them" is a story

 

AND

 

2) "they had too much time off and they got rusty" is a story

 

but, "sometimes teams with time off win, and sometimes they lose because that's how sports is" isn't a story.

Bill Coore on NLU is pretty good. talks about Pinehurst a lot and the "restoration" of Kapalua, which I probably knew (at some point) was happening, but had forgotten about. He's saying the tournament this year should play similar to how it played in the early 90's.

They said the course was built in 1965,back then they were using two different types of grass.

Sometime back, made a family trip to Davis WV for the Fall Leaf Peeper festival and lucked out with a round at Canaan Valley with fall foliage in full bloom.

The downhill par3s at Little Bennett can be spectacular in fall.

Any favorite fall holes in this area?

I always like getting out to Greystone in the fall.

 

Also, Pine Ridge can be amazing because you look across the reservoir and you can see an entire hillside going through change. Specifically, looking from the 12th tee across the water to the 15th green is amazing.

Laurel Hill has some amazing fall views. 3rd green/4th tee. 8th tee looking back towards the clubhouse. 16th tee.

 

Mattaponi Springs is always a great fall course too.

Yeah, I got it, and yes it would be kinda cool to get you guys on the Shore and organize something, but there's two pretty big obstacles:

 

1) That ******* Bay Bridge. If we chose a Saturday you've got traffic backups on the way over and if we choose a Sunday you've got traffic backups going back. This past Sunday the backup was 14 miles! It almost limits you to a weekday round, barring if they improve the traffic flow.

 

2) Its $135 for a November Round- in St. Michaels, wind blowing in off the bay. IMHO, by the flyover I saw, the course just isn't that special. I get you get to take on the 17th island green vs. going to Sawgrass, but you can travel a little further to OC and play Rum Pointe for probably around half that and still get a Pete Dye design.

 

That being said, if someone tries to put something together I'll try to make it.

I got the offer but for most of Ricks reasons, I didnt pay much attention to it. If theres any traffic whatsoever its 3+ hours for me to get home. During the week it could be worse, if I hit rush hour traffic - forget it.

 

Plus $135 for a November round - it better be an absolutely knockout option.

Going to try to hit up a few random places I don't normally get to, with the only real restriction being that I have to get there, play, and get home within about 8 hours. Maybe Laurel Hill, maybe Bulle Rock, maybe Mattaponi. Royal New Kent is probably too far, but I'm considering it.

I really want to hit RNK but I'm heading to Vegas that Thursday. Definitely want to get a round in there at some point soon though.

Has anyone looked at their handicap and what's going to happen to it in 2020?

 

the main thing is that they're going to take you 8 best of 20, and stop using the .96 multiplier.

 

it looks like it will drop me (as of right now) from like a 1.4 to a 1.1.

 

I've plugged a few random people from MSGA into a spreadsheet and I've found that it doesn't seem like it's going to have much of an effect. Like, I plugged in a 10 handicap and a 20 handicap and they both got adjusted down by like .3.

 

Now, what I don't is how the "daily ratings" and the "net double max" will affect people. You could see some "fair weather golfes" see their caps go up, or people who play well in the slop see their caps drop (I'm a little worried about this for me).

I didn't watch it, but it sounds like he put together a heck of a round. Scoring wasn't great and he shot 64.

I posted my 40th round of the handicap season today. No golf trips padding the total. No breaks from playing. Just regular, continuous golf, for a full season. I'm very, very happy with that.

 

Oh, I did play with domes and city today. They're ok, I guess.
