I am an NLU mark, but that episode last night was disappointing. I don't want to see them hit putters and drivers off the tee on The Cradle. I want to see some half wedge shots and realistic golf being played. I'm fine with their schtick making fun of golf commentators. Randy is always gold.

I listened to Randy on the Trap Draw with the guys who wrote the book, "The Lost Art of Playing Golf."

you can pretty much guess what their take is based on the title. . .basically the idea is to get away from "playing golf swing" and get into "playing golf". . .on the range, work on shots, not swings. Be happy on the course and let that bleed into your game. Dont' let your game control your emotions. etc etc. They talk about how at the end, Seve was only good when he was hitting recovery shots.

It was OK. I listened at work so I only paid half-attention (half paid attention?), but it was interesting to hear Randy talk about his own struggles with getting better.

The same authors have a book called "the Lost Art of Putting."

I haven't read either, but they're both pretty well-reviewed.

I tend to believe Tron's handi. I think those guys would ride him too hard if he was a real vanity. I think it's a fool's errand to try to estimate a guy's cap from a small sample of play, let alone an edited video where you can't even follow the ball.

Rady is definitely my favorite on camera. when he showed up partway through the Strapped, I was like, "yeah, randy's here. let's have some fun." his story about the guy in the car flipping off the entire triathlon was funny.

BTW I was mad impressed when they talked about Randy having done a half ironman triathlon. You dont just wake up one day and decide you are going to go out that weekend and do a half ironman, people train for years to do something like that. Definitely went up a few rungs after seeing that.

For anyone looking for a local (Baltimore) lesson, I'd highly recommend Matt Decker who's now at Five Iron. He was the lead assistant at Chartwell prior to going there and has Trackman and GC Quad available to him for use. Younger guy, big proponent of "feal not real" and trying to give you a couple feels to work on.

 

Not my preference to do it all indoors but when it's dark out, it's nice to get a winter tune up.

Tron is emerging as the most dangerous threat for the net of their whole crew. He doesn't have the prettiest swing, but he's always in the mix. He seems to play to his strengths, and putt well. He's a competitor. Based on the limited view we get of their games, I suspect he'd be the toughest to go up against in a net match of the bunch.

As usual, there's more to playing than swinging, though. Don't know how well he chips and putts.

He EE's a bit so I bet he has contact issues, but it looks like a pretty simple, repeatable move.

I think DJ looks real steep, and out-to-in. It looks like he's real wipey, with strong thin and hosel-adjacent tendencies. He did drop 3-4 birds in the first Tourist Sauce: Carolinas 'sode though, so WTF do I know.

Pretty sure it was $20. Also pretty sure they bring the same bucket every year, that Grafalloy Blue shaft is apparently not a big seller. I will say they had some really good deals on shirts/pullovers if thats what you were looking for. $30 for new polos from Adidas/FJ/UA. Pullovers for $40. Otherwise I would say it was about the same as last year.

Having been to Second Swing now its hard for me to say any of those clubs were a good deal. But again, 90% of the general public that walks in there has no idea what Second Swing even is.

I don't think this counts against my "I'm not changing anything" claim, since it's a potential addition, not a swap or removal of a club. I'm thinking about getting a 5w to mess around with, in between the 3w and 3h spot in my bag. I've only got 13 clubs, so I'd be able to just add it in without having to worry about what to replace it with. It's not an overwhelming need (like putting a 4-iron back in the bag was), but there are definitely times where I'm on a long par 3, or facing a second shot on a par 5 where I'm in between my 3w and hybrid. I end up having to pick between the potential of blowing it over the green, or coming up short.

 

Simpson coming back at the end yesterday and clipping Finau in the playoff was soul-crushing. My buddy and I have picked two playoff losers already this season, in the OAD. I felt bad for Tony, too. He really needs a breakout win. He looks destined to become the next (probably better version of) Charles Howell. He could amass a huge career earnings total, without ever really becoming a winner. His putting is the weakest link in his skill set, but it seems like maybe there are some intangibles lacking. Does he just not have that winners mindset?

Got out to a county course on Saturday. Course was soaked and cart path only

The lady in the pro-shop let me skip 4 tee times and get off in front of a massive Asian contingent that I was eyeballing in the parking lot. That shaved at least an hour off my round

Hit no traffic until 9 when I got caught behind another extremely slow foursome. They had 5 open holes ahead of them and wouldn't let me through so I swung by the pro shop and they sent someone out to get me by which shaved another 45 minutes off the possible total

The golf could be described as shaky at best. The D was whiffed all day long but generally kept it in play. Probably only hit one solid iron all day. Highlight was a birdie birdie eagle stretch mid-way through the back 9 that included a chip-in and hole-out from 95 out

Quickly followed that stretch up by going triple, double, bogey to finish

I didn't plan on tinkering with the putter very much but it could happen at some point. I'm also heavily considering adding a 4 hybrid to the bag

It was nice to get out there and now I've really got the bug
