MD/DC/VA Golfers - Twelve Monkeys Mental Divergence

You can blame the Twelve Monkeys thing on @eagle1997.  I thought the thread title ought to be something a little less disturbing.  FYI, this is the twelfth iteration of MD/DC/VA golf threads, although I don't think previous ones went nearly as long as this time.  Maybe its time to go to 13?

On the old forum software it used to get to a point where the thread completely bogged down after a certain number of posts.  It required starting a new thread and abandoning the old one.  The newer software fixed that, so we're stuck with Twelve Monkeys forever.

Didn't Tex have a giltter beard for some event? Or was that DCM?

I did have a glitter beard for the 7s but there is a meme of DC with a glitter beard too.

Alright you Traeger guys,  how did the turkey's turn out?

Ridiculously good. Flavor was just an A+, skin was super crispy but the inside was still so juicy. After doing it this way for the first time, I cant imagine putting it in the oven again. I've never cooked a turkey in the oven anywhere near this.

Put a light coating of butter/rub on the outside to start. At around 155* internal I started basting it with a maple syrup/butter mix. We smoked it at 300*, I saw some guys that go to 350* but 300* worked just fine. For an 18 ln bird it took right around 3.5 hours.

Welcome to HoCo. I live there also and so do some other folks that post here. I generally go to Nick at Club champion in Rockville but I know others have recommended Nighthawk golf in Gambrills. There is a Second Swing in Columbia but I’ve never asked them to do anything. Good place to try out random stuff though.

Thanks a lot! 2nd swing was one of the places that came up on the quick google search I did, but i trust personal recommendations more. I appreciate your response, thanks a lot. P.S. HoCo seems pretty awesome so far.

I have really given this some thought, I just don't think I am comfortable enough with that yet. I may experiment with installing grips and smaller changes, but when it comes to things like hotmelt, shaft trimming, etc. I think I will leave to the pros for now.

Welcome. HoCo is great. We have golf club that most of us belong to known as the HIVE. Feel free to check us out in 2021. You can be a guest for 2 events I believe and then there is a vote by the membership.  HIVE leadership can chime in if I am incorrect.

This is the first time I've heard of these Golf Pride grips that were designed to be changed without any tools at all? One, not sure how well it works in reality - these kinds of things seem to always be marketed as easier than they actually are. It also seems to only be for this one particular grip model but my guess would be that if it works, they would migrate it to all of their grips.

That's a cool concept.  My first thought was "those have to be $15+ per."  Turns out they are $10.  Not too bad.  Might as well order a couple to see how they are.

I've used both 2nd Swing and the GG in Columbia with great success for trimming shafts, pulling/switching adapters, and anything else that typically has to do with graphite that I don't have the ability to do myself.  I wouldn't hesitate to use either business again.

I would definitely be interested in something like this. Would be a great way to meet folks and play the courses locally without going by myself all the time. Thanks a lot, I will definitely get in touch with you on that front.

They are horrible and are a nightmare to put on.  Golf Pride is great but these are a giant flop.

I built two clubs 6-7 years ago. They are still holding up but are a bit sloppy looking.  Shaft isn’t quite aligned right and there’s a bit of extra epoxy.  My biggest mistake was removing a graphite shaft myself.  Destroyed the shaft and left some pieces in the hosel.  Was a huge PITA to drill and grind out the extra graphite and then clean the hosel properly.  I’m honestly surprised I never had any issues with the clubs over the years, which probably speaks to it being a relatively foolproof process (or my low swing speed).

I learned my lesson and will pay the pros for that.  It’s one of those things that isn’t hard, but takes practice to do it well.

GolfWorks offers shaft services like trimming and prepping the tips to take epoxy properly.  Then all you have to do is assemble.

If any of the guys in here need help with builds lmk.  Im in Maryland and have a complete shop including tour van hotmelt services.  I work with a ton of guys locally and on wrx, especially for hotmelt jobs.

Oh reallllllyyyy....

(raises hand)

I'd been thinking about getting my Sim MAX hotmelted to deaden the sound even more. Found a site that sells lighter backweights so I dont change the total weight too much because I honestly like the feel of it right now.
