Mrs. Terphack wanted to try a couple of different drivers so we went to Second Swing yesterday, arriving just about the time they opened. As she was hitting in one of the bays I was standing right outside in the aisle when a young employee came running in the front door telling another employee to call 911. The young guy hollers "some guy is passed out in the parking lot!" From where I was standing I could see a car with feet and legs hanging out of the back door on the drivers side. I ran out the door followed by young guy and another store employee who was on the phone calling for an ambulance. At the car I opened the back passenger door to see a guy, mid sixties I guess, face planted and unconscious in the back seat area. I checked for a pulse, which he had but I couldn't tell if he was breathing. I ran around to the drivers side and was able to pull him up and out on to the ground. The guy was stout and very sweaty so I admit he sort of landed harder than I would have liked. This helped stir the guy a bit and I could now tell he was breathing faintly and was trying to say something. I asked him his name and he just moaned, he couldn't stick his tongue out or hold my hand on his right side so I believe he probably had a stroke. Young guy, the other store employee and myself were finally able to lift the man up into the grass and shade behind his car as we waited for the ambulance. Poor guy looked frightened and couldn't say anything. As soon as the paramedics arrived they didn't waste any time whisking him away. Hopefully the guy will be ok.

None. She liked this older XXIO driver that was a bit beat up and needed a new grip but when she price checked it they wanted $300. Shocked at the price she said " Um, no. I don't hit it that well."  It was marked as 8.5 condition but more like 4.5

Is Second Swing open for actual business now - meaning can you just grab a bunch of clubs and use the simulators again or do you still need an appointment?

Gotta get out this week and see if I can remember how to swing a club. Took a couple weeks off before a ten day fishing trip - been probably a month since I picked up a club. Decided to bail on club championship matches this coming weekend as I would really just be a punching bag for someone at this point.

Hi All,

 

Do you have any recommendations club builders in the DMV (preferably NoVa)? I need some new ferrules and a new wedge shaft and (before I decide to do it myself) I want to see if there’s anyone around you all trust. 
 

From a google search I’ve found GolfDoctor-DC (waiting for an email back) and Merrifield.

Always had good luck with the guys out at Westfields. 

 

Used to take stuff to Golf Galaxy in Fairfax but the one club builder I liked had left. For something like that though, I feel like they could probably handle it.

Thanks! I always forget Westfields does club work. I may give them a ring. I’ve never had a “big box” (GG) do any club work before. I’d think this would be pretty routine though.

Had a couple iron lofts adjusted at Golfdom (Tysons) last week (I do most of my own work, but don't have a loft/lie machine).  Guy doing the work was very meticulous and even offered to clean up a couple sloppy ferrules for me.

Thanks! I’ve only been to Golfdom once but they seemed to have a lot in stock. Just called over there and they said they could do everything in 48-72 hours. I might just go that route since it’s much closer than Westfields. I’d like to do the work myself (see my thread in the club techs forum) but still mulling it over since I have none of the equipment necessary.

I am Not an expert on clubs in th Baltimore area by any means. This is just my opinion. 

 

Suburban club was a really nice course when I played some matches there a few years ago. 

 

I inquired at Hayfields recently. It's off 83  past Timonium. Great course.  I don't remember all the particulars but i found it to be fairly reasonable for that course. They are only taking social right now. ( That's probably why I forgot the info). 

 

Sorry I don't have the real info you're looking for. Just thought I'd mention two courses that I thought were good on the condition side.

You can PM me if you want, I'm a Baltimore guy and I'm sure a few others will chime in too. Given the price of daily fee courses in the Baltimore/DC area and demand for tee times, private golf is definitely an option if you can find a club close to you to maximize usage. What part of the beltway are you closest to?

 

In the northern/eastern part of the city, here are the options:

 

Hayfields

Eagle's Nest

Country Club of Maryland

BCC

Elkridge Club

Sparrows Point

Suburban

Hunt Valley

Hillendale

 

To the west/north, you basically have Turf Valley and Piney Branch as your best options. Several Turf members on here might be able to share some insight with you. 

 

I was at Sparrows for 6 years and play at CCMD now, pricing will always come down to your age and what you expect to use the club for as fees can rack up anywhere, especially if you ride frequently.

I'm 26, I'll probably land in Howard County, but in AACo for now. 

Cattail looks pretty ideal, also fairly expensive. 

 

So something similar, but more "bare bones."

Really only care about the golf. I walk and ride.

If you're in AACo and may stay near there, you could look into joining the Naval Academy course:

It is pretty much just a golf course and not a country club, but it's originally a William Flynn course that they just spent $5 million renovating.  Andrew Green did the renovation and he's the same guy who just did Congressional.  They probably have a waiting list for civilian members, but you could also check.

Just discovered this thread somehow but figured this is the best place to ask this question. Where are the grass ranges in the area? I know of Blue Mash and Laurel Hill but was wondering if there are any others. Thanks!

Lake presidential would be one of the best in the area. Believe they have a little membership you can get into for the range

Waverly Woods and Timber of Troy are a couple more.

Anyone here a member at Manor in Rockville and/or have you played that course?  The family and I are considering joining.  My Dad played it some 30 years ago and remembers it as being a gem.
