The Pinecrest simulator is looking pretty good right now.  Haven't driven for two days, but may have to make a trip!

For anybody down here in Southern Maryland there is apparently a great simulator/indoor putting place over by Leonardtown called “Above Par Entertainment” or something like that. I haven’t checked it out but am planning on going over there this month.

Any good ones north/west of DC (MoCo/HoCo)? My brother worked a bit for Xgolf near Philly - I went up there a few times. Can be fun, and nice to swing during the off-season. But no Xgolf or About golf near DC, that I know about.

5 Iron golf has locations in DC and Baltimore.  I have heard good things.

Five Iron is great, the one is Baltimore is really close to my house and it's been here since late 2019. Winter leagues are just starting up, it's a nice relaxed vibe and excuse to get in 2ish hours of casual play in at night each week. 

 

The sims are nice if you want indoor practice but the rates aren't ideal for solo usage. It's better to get 2-3 guys together for a long rental to split up the cost.

So much for having a full winter league season. Currently entering the COVID protocol, wife is positive with symptoms for the last 5 days. My PCR test from Friday is still pending but I woke up this morning feeling like I had a bad hangover (15 days into Dry January). Glad we took advantage of the boosters before the holidays, I think we would have been in a pretty bad way if our year-old second doses were all we had to help us out. It was a good opportunity to give my new baking steel a run:

 

 

 

@Terphack here's some recent ones from his romp in the last snowfall. His eye scar healed really well and all of his facial hair is back.

Best place for a WEDGE fitting in the area? I am looking more for chip/pitch type fitting of proper loft and bounce rather than trying to get proper gap distances between my PW and other wedges. I don't typically do any full swings with SW and LW, so looking for a proper wedge fitting that isn't just hitting some stuff off a nice cushy lie. Thoughts?

Igolf72 in Hoco/Columbia is a solid spot. Not super expensive either

With recent snow you might have to wait a bit. Fitting studio at the end of lake presidential has grass to hit off

 

Really hard to be fitted proper without doing it off grass, imo

This dynamic duo has been non stop in my house all weekend.  The Lab is Jack who is a service dog that my daughter is raising for Fido's For Freedom. Jack is 13 weeks old and super smart but wants to spend his entire day wrestling with Tully the Golden puppy. Jack is near 25 lbs and Tully is only about 12 right now. Tully likes to play for a little while but is out of his weight class and is taking the brunt. While I like Jack a lot I will be glad when he heads back to College Park later today.

UPDATE: Went to Club Champion in FFX today and tried a wedge fitting anyway. Hit about 4-5 different types of SW and LW with different types of shots (full, 3/4, half, pitch, chip, flop, etc) and wasn't fully impressed with any until....Taylormade Hi Toe Raw. I tried the 60 Lob Wedge with 7 degrees of bounce and I probably hit 14/15 great shots with it. Anything i threw at it, it did! Tried it off the tight tight boardy lie, more cushy lie, and it just performed SO WELL. I am not a great wedge player and these made me look and feel like I knew exactly what I was doing. I even hit some sweet flop shots with it off a tight lie, which I am never able to do. Incredible level of forgiveness.

Good question. I went about 3-4 months ago, but i run into the same issue when I just looked for their website.

He had an odd looking mass that we decided to have removed. It turned out to be a low grade mast cell tumor, so very glad to have gotten that off him before it could continue to spread. The tumor is the  lowest grade possible but we have to see a specialist for bloodwork next week.

Joined the GolfWeek Amateur Tour, Washington DC Chapter. Anyone else in the area play in it? This is my FIRST attempt at Tournament golf, other than scrambles/best ball tournaments with groups, so I am really looking forward to it.

Congrats, I think its great that more folks get out and play tournament golf like this. I played on another local am tour and also played on the GolfWeek tour a few iterations before it became the GW tour. I think you will have fun, I think the rounds will be slower than you might be used to just out playing with your buddies - but like you, you'll find a lot of folks out there who are playing in their first ever real tournaments. IMO its great experience and you'll find out pretty quickly if its for you or not!

Last night at indoor league was a fun show. We split our 4-man teams up to play 2v2 matches against other leagues, and our opponent was a guy who was just freakish. He was about 6-5 and clocked 139mph with his driver. I believe one of his 3 wood shots carried somewhere in the 335 range? He had a really nice swing too, just needs to see a fitter to get his insane gapping and distance control issues sorted out. For someone with that kind of speed he wasn't putting much spin on the ball at all.  We of course got dumpstered by him and his teammate. 

 

I had a small glimmer of hope and finally got a 170 ball. Going down to an 8 degree head was definitely the right call. First offseason in a few years that my back and neck are healthy..but not much golf in the months ahead.

Can anyone recommend a solid instructor/swing coach in the howard county area? 

 

I am debating between finding someone to go see in person vs online coaching. Would prefer to go off recommendation for an in person coach vs testing the waters at random. Thanks!
