Tiger mentioned testing new shafts

Recommended Posts

Whats so bad about just finding a stock shot with the driver and sticking with it? His relentlessness to cut every drive is killing him. Hey Tiger the right rough, woods, hazards, etc arent better than the left sides.

I dont think that's the problem. The problem is he isnt playing for a cut every time. He is trying to hit it straight or draws and still cutting it.

Can’t say I agree with any of that.

al those rights arent on purpose... take it from a guy who couldnt hook a driver if he had a gun to his head.... Hes trying to hit it straight most of the time.. his arms arent keeping up with his lower half

He’s stated he wants to cut the ball off the tee with the driver but I’m sure he could hook anything he wanted. I’m also sure all those way right misses aren’t on purpose. Any shot for a pro is gonna be relatively straight and not gonna be the cut or draw the average guy hits curving 20 yards. Part of it is probably his ego with shaft selection and how hard he swings.

That’s what i said. Except he can’t hit it straight. Because he’s stuck. Sure. He could hook it. I can hook it. I meant as in hit a hard draw in play. Not duck hook one into the left trees to prove you can hook it. Two different things.

He hits it straight on the range. With his skill level and endless resources he could find something in a driver form that could put the ball in the middle of the fairway more times than not.

It’s not the clubs it’s the intensity under pressure. The urge to hit it hard. The try hard factor. The competitor in him. It actually makes sense. He knows he doesn’t have to hit any of the other clubs that hard because he’s trying to hit certain distances. He could always change to fit the window. The driver is 290 plus... and the thought that he could kill it causes him to swing slightly too hard. He hammers these things on the range. Perfectly. We’ve probbaly all been there. Happens every time I play. Way better trying to hit spots. Way bad when I am trying to hit it 350.

Then why hasn't he? I also agree with the above post that you disagreed with, he is sometimes trying to draw the driver and leaking it out to the right instead which was why he seemed to abandon that shot almost completely by Sunday. Its confusing because of the way he sets up these days, which is similar to the old days; he hits both a cut and a draw from the same square to somewhat closed stance and just stands in a different part of the tee box. His "stock" cut shot that he was trying to play was from a very closed stance relative to where the ball was starting, see here:

....and I would imagine his experimenting with shafts is to try to find something that can help him turn it over. He clearly has no problem cutting the ball but the straight/drawing shot doesn't seem to be there right now.

Sure. But like I said earlier he loses so much distance it negates even carrying a Driver. “ in the fairway “ could be achieved with a 3-4 iron. 90% or more of the time. But you’d never win with that.

They just mentioned he has a 5 wood int he bag as well. I would assume the set up is:

Driver: Diamana D+ Ltd 70TX

3 Wood: Diamana D+ Ltd 80TX

5 Wood: Diamana D+ Ltd 90TX

So far he's 0/2 in fairways, both pulls left with the driver

Interesting that he has 5 wood, seems like it's been exclusively the UDI since the move to TM.

FACTS!!!

It's amazing how ridiculously great he has been this year with the Iron and wedges and how flat out bad he is with his woods.

It's def his swing and/or something mental.

I will also say and I game the "same" Ball but it can get side spinny off the big stick but flys perfect with irons.

Looks like Tiger's settling back into these shafts. Last two holes have been right down the middle.

I was never a fan of Tensei shafts. Never worked for me. The Diamana is a tried and true line and are excellent.

Course dependent play like a lot of the guys on tour. Ball not rolling out this week being wet and he must forsee a lot of 240-250 carry shots that need to land softly.

I’ve been an MRC shaft user for years and I could easily game any of the Tensei Pro or D+ offerings. The PO spins a ton less for me vs my Diamana D+ and I have no issues controlling it. The PW Is by far the best fairway shaft I’ve ever hit.

Regardless of shaft choice, I wish Tiger the best of luck this week.

P.s I will not be selling my PO lol

I'm sure I'll get form-tackled for suggesting this...but, while he wasn't great today with the driver, this course looks SNUG.....watched passively this morning and every time I looked , JT, DJ, Brooks, etc were in the trees.....

Would be very curious to see how he had faired at a course with wider runways....

I know this totally anti WRX but shaft doesn't make a difference, at all. Like literally at all.
