Wintonbury or Fox Hopyard

Haven't played either, and I see good things about both on here. If you could only play 1, which and why?

I have only played Wintonbury, but even having not played Fox Hopyard I would opt for FH. I took a lesson there once years ago and the grounds were immaculate. The clubhouse/restaurant is very nice. It just makes you feel really nice to be there, and the course conditions are always top notch.

I have played Wintonbury just once and it was earlier this month.

My experience there was real positive and the conditions were very solid. We also got very lucky that the tee times were spread far apart so pace-of-play was a non-issue and overall it was a really lovely experience.

However, Fox Hopyard is on a slightly higher level as a relates to conditions, the facility itself and the overall experience you'll have.

In my humble opinion, both courses are really strong but for more of a First-Class experience, I'm confident most people will take Fox Hopyard all day.

I agree with Fairwinds. Both courses are excellent, and I really enjoy playing each one, but I'll give the nod to Fox Hopyard as a notch above.

I'm playing there again tomorrow, so I'll report back on course conditions, etc., but I've never been disappointed.

Hopyard is also a great course if you like to hit 5-6 different clubs off the tee during a round. Great course. Wintonberry (haven't been there in two years) is a lot of fun as well, but as others have said maybe a mid-tier course instead of top in the state.

Played wintonbury 2 weeks ago, course was in great shape, pace of play was great. Those greens did a number on me, they were in great shape, I couldn’t figure them out though!

Played Fox Hopyard today. First, it was an absolute gem of a day here in CT. One of those Top 10 days of the summer. Warm, but not too hot or humid. Just about perfect. Kind of like the course. Such a great track, great facilities and great staff. Greens were rolling true and fast. (Pays to stay below the hole, as any downhill putts require a very precise touch). Fairways were pristine.

The layout and design of the course make for an interesting test. All 18 holes are different, with a mix of links, parkland, lowland and mountain golf.

If you haven't played it, treat yourself to a great day of golf!
