What Did You Learn About Golf Today?

It’s a simple question but it seemed like a good idea for a thread. What did you learn about golf today? :)

Today I learned that I need to work on my iron game, it was the best part of my game but after working on other things a lot this year it’s started to fall behind.

I learned the only way to be really good at golf is to be otherwise unemployed.

I learned that when I execute my preferred golf swing to perfection, carefully paying attention to every aspect of alignment, setup and execution, it's still too unreliable to be useful. This is actually true, and I find it really distressing.

Man do I know what you mean, don't know if there is a better way to describe my relationship with gold. I wish I could fix this mental part of my game.

For me, it just indicates that there's a fundamental flaw in my understanding of my ideal swing. It's not that I'm poorly executing the correct thing. It's that I'm reliably executing the wrong thing. My method is faulty.

I've been working hard on my game all year. I only get out on average once a week and practice once a week but I've completely revamped my game and my swing. I've been knocking on the door of shooting in the 70's for weeks and 3 of my 4 vacation rounds in Calgary the last three weeks were the best ball striking I've ever had but I just couldn't putt to save my life. I made a small change to my alignment and setup and it all came together today. I made 4 putts from 8 to 15', didn't miss any short putts I should have made, and never more than 2 putted any greens. Shot a 77. What I learned was that I need all aspects of my game firing to get into the 70's. Sounds obvious but never having been in the 70's territory but once I assumed for much of the year that if I worked on the chipping, pitching and full shots the 70's would happen in spite of my pedestrian putting. Those aspects of my game came together pretty well (still room for improvement obviously) but I needed the putting to push me over the edge. I hit the practice green after and tried out my Odyssey blade (switched to a light Northern Spirit mallet a few weeks ago) and I putt even better than I did with the mallet on course. I'm absolutely stoked because I know it wasn't luck. The putts went where I aimed them all day and I was never really in danger of 3 putting on any hole! :superman:

I learned that scoring streaks end. I was on a run with 11 straight at 79 or better.

Yesterday a chop city 82.

Needless to say I proceeded to calmly get in my car, and swear all the home.

I felt like an artist.

I had to do a shot after my 50-something hole double-free streak ended last month.

We had good runs. Hang your hat on it.

Bob Crane had a good run too, and look how that ended.
