Boston 9/24

Recommended Posts

So I'll be in Boston for business this week, but wanted to know where i should play Monday afternoon.

Anyone got any private hook ups and wanna host a solid player who plays fast and isn't annoying?

If not, what public tracks should i play?

My route will be coming from NJ...

There are a lot of options but be cautious as this is the time of year for aerating. Right in the Boston area there is Granite Links. For a larger offering head about 50 minutes south to Plymouth, Ma. To name a few, there is Pinehills (two 18 hole courses), Waverly Oaks and crosswinds (27 holes). About the same distance west you could go to Red Tail, Blackstone National, Highfields, Wachusett or Blissful Meadows.

Obviously there are many more.

Welcome to MA and enjoy your stay.

If you're a fan of golf history, and course design, hit George Wright. It's considered one of the best examples of Donald Ross design out there. Conditions won't be as nice as Granite Links or Pinehills, but you'll have a chance to play a really fun track for relatively short money, and it's a piece of golf history to boot. Plus it's right in the city (okay, maybe not the nicest part of the city, but easy to get to).

I'll echo SecondandGoal on George Wright. Granite Links is another option, I am just not a fan

However, you suggest your route is coming up from NJ, so thinking about convenience from your drive, there are two places that are "relatively speaking" en route - Blackstone Valley and The Ranch. Candidly, it's been so long for me playing either, I can't comment too much on how they are now - but they will be easy if you're coming up Monday morning and want to play on your way. The Plymouth options are very inconvenient. There are other courses west of Boston that people like (Red Tail, Crumpin Fox, Shaker HIlls, etc.) but those are going to be further North than your drive from NJ (assuming you take the Merritt to 91 to 84 to 90 trip)

Ah, I’m not a huge fan of Donald Ross courses but sounds like a cool option.

And I’m talking September. 9/24

Your issue is that you’re going to be pressed against sunset that time of year unless your meeting is first thing. If you have a lunch meeting in town, you’re done at 1:00; car is out of the garage and on the road by 1:20. You’re not rolling up to pinehills until 2:10. So you could tee off at 2:30 ... with sunset at 6:30 ... it’s going to be tight.

Closer to Boston: Granite Links, Pine Hills (Jones course), Waverly Oaks, George Wright.

1-2 hours from Boston: Red Tail, Shaker Hills, Blackstone National, Butterbrook, Butternut Farms, Blissful Meadows, Olde Scotland Links

There's a lot more but that's a good start. Google MA Public courses and take a look at some of the courses. As mentioned above plan your time as it will get dark sooner than you think and will make late afternoon rounds really tough to complete.

Depending on where you're coming from, Pinehills is 45 minutes to an hour from the city. Without traffic. About the same for Waverly Oaks.

Newport National is by far one of the biggest rip offs around. The $150 green fees are absurd for that course.Have played there a couple times before the prices were raised. The first hole is a complete joke as a starting hole.

There are no 2 or 3 hole stretches that make you think I want to play those holes again.Very bland and over priced course.

I would play Montaup over that all day even if money was equal
