What Does Callaway Have In Store For 2019?

Recommended Posts

I too prefer the matte/satin especially here in sunny, hot Texas

I have a picture of the standard, non-pro Apex but not sure if I am allowed to post it yet. Would think so since the Apex Pro's are out there?

As mentioned, there a a couple of images that have already been posted in this thread. Please add your pics when you get a chance, I'd like to see if you have any different angles.

Thanks.

If anyone has pics of the standard Apex please post.

Okay, what is the "PM" grind?

... I hope your jesting.

Not jesting.

Sorry, wedges have never been an area of weakness, so not an area I read a lot into on WRX or anywhere else for that matter.

Always nice to learn something new.

With a username of Golf Channel, I would think that you were kidding...lol.

The PM Grind revolutionized sand/lob wedges with a extremely high toe for full worry-free, less errored flop shots.

Callaway was making these for Phil for the last 5+ years... Specially extending the toe and pushing the grooves all the way to the top of the toe.

Nothing can beat it out of the sand or the rough.

I would say it is more of a niche than a revolution. I don't think I have ever seen one in play other than the one I had for a short while. It is also a polarizing design that doesn't necessarily work for everyone. My own experience is that it was terrible for me. The head is huge and the leading edge is a terrible match for my game. I am interested to see the new version. If the leading edge is as round as the original, it is a no go for me.

Was that copy and pasted or are you trying to sell me something I didn't need before and still don't need...

Unless the wedges impart Phil's sense of touch with it magically into my hands as well, I'm good.

I have a sleeve of their new ball. they have a few different models coming out including one that is 25% larger than a standard ball called the magna. obviously geared toward high handicaps but still fitting for the pre-release section.

I think it’s true you love them or hate them. But he’s not wrong. If you forget then look they work better than most anything. People always talking forgiveness. Those wedges are the easiest to operate short of the ones sold on golf Chanel to fix the yips. I’ve kept a set since day one. Played them for 14 months straight at one point.

To me, it felt like the leading edge was ahead of the hosel. I had a tendency to open the face as I addressed the ball leading to many weak pushes. Around the green, I found it alright, but not any better than a standard wedge was. In the end, I liked the concept, but didn't like some of the intricate details. Why they don't offer a few different options in this line is absolutely astonishing. Once these hit the shelves, I'll check them out. But, for the time being, I am probably more interested in a Hi-Toe should I pick up a new wedge this winter.

Does anyone know the release date for the PM grind 2.0? This club was a game changer for me....has had a permanent spot in my bag since the day it dropped.....can't wait for the 2.0 and praying they release it in raw finish.

I don’t know the exact release date but it will most definitely be either the last week in January or within the first two weeks of February. Callaway’s mainline releases always follow right after the PGA show in January.

Hmm. Funny. I tended to want to hood the face a tad and therefore played a draw or straight ball on a full shot. I agree the high toe looks good. But not really because it’s better than the pm. Just better than a normal wedge.

Why?

☝️

Great point on this. We're seeing oems going more and more to a less complicated cavity so it makes you wonder why there's so much craziness on the back of that otherwise nice-looking Club

Craziness? Tough crowd here. The right one is literally silver with nothing on it and the left one has the Callaway logo. That’s it. Sometimes I think people on this board would prefer blank minimalist irons with nothing on them. These badges are VERY minimal and maybe I’m in the minority but they look fine to me. I’m sure they’ll be quite easily removable for the 0.001% of WRXers who demand a clean cavity...

It’s the diamond plate look that’s weak.

Why?

Badge or bust...

It would’ve been perfect without it!

Agreed! All these oems are infatuated with badges now days..

I'm sure you're aware, as are most on these forums, but the badging on these modern clubs is typically what gives them their "feel". i.e, it's the vibration dampening component of the iron head. Without these badges, most would not like the sound or the feel of these modern thin faced, spring faced clubs.

I'm a big Callaway fan, have owned drivers and currently own Apex MB's that I adore and an Odyssey O Works 7 Tank that has literally shaved about 3-4 strokes. That being said, I can't seem to get along with the wedges, PM grind or otherwise. I too was trying out the PM grind vs Vokey vs Hi Toe etc and found that, for whatever reason my distances suffered with the callys, by maybe 10 yards on full shots with a 56 degree for example. Was odd. On the other hand, I kinda dug the Hi Toe and almost bought one as I was able to do some really spinny flops with it, and the 58 deg I was hitting just about the same distance as my then current 56, so a pretty versatile club. Ultimately I ended up going Vokey again though - just a comfort thing at this point I guess, but I'm still considering getting a Hi-Toe 58 to mess around with more.
