Great pics, thank you. Mammoth Dunes looks great, but Sand Valley looks amazing.... cannot wait to get there!

Arg, some great pix. I've definitely missed the boat on Whispering Springs. Looks like a nice track!

Thank you for all of the pics. Hopefully playing Whispering Springs next weekend, and a trip to Mammoth/Sand Valley awaits me next year.

The opening stretch is nice, but 13 through 17 is a bit of a snoozer. I still think it's worth a visit if you're passing through the area.

OK, wrapping up the report. Fun trip, and I got lucky with the weather for the most part. Here's my ranking:

 

1) Mammoth Dunes: The course is a visual treat, with more memorable holes than SV. Loved the par 3's. Loved the blowout bunkers. Loved the ginormous greens. The entire resort is first class, and is definitely a must visit.

 

2) Sand Valley: The tougher of the two courses, as there's more trouble off the tee, it's a solid companion course to MD. The par 3's didn't quite excite me like MD.

 

3) Sentry World: Wonderful conditioning, including the bunkers. A few too many "meh" holes, though. They should have raised a few of the tee boxes to give a better look at the holes, as many a flat as a pancake. I don't think it warrants a #34 ranking in the Gold Digest Top 100 Greatest Public Courses list, though. I'd place it in the lower 1/3rd.

 

4) Thornberry Creek Legends: A few too many homes along the course for my liking, but a reasonable prairie layout nonetheless. A few snoozer holes in the bunch.

 

5) Whispering Springs: If holes 13 - 17 could be replaced with holes similar to the front nine holes, it would have probably jumped a spot in my ranking.
