Who here plays their driver under 44.5" finished length???

Currently I'm playing my driver at 43.75" and having much better success. Been seeing a LOT of very good players game their driver (especially the Rogue) under 44.5" Who else is in this club?

43.75 on my Cobra LTD. All of my clubs are shorter than standard, based on my height and wrist to floor. My last 3 drivers for the past 15 years have been about 43.5 to 43.75.

... I am 6'1" and have played my driver at 44.25" for over 20 years now. Actually gained distance with the current ball, shaft and head combo. Considering you lose 5-7 yds for every 1/4" you miss the center, it is not unusual to miss the center by 1/2-1" with longer shafts and that results in a loss of 14-28 yds. I will always remember DLIII in his prime when he said if he absolutely needed a long drive, he dialed back his swing speed a hair and made sure he hit the dead center of the face.

I play a 44in driver and love it, have been hitting more fairways and may have even picked up a bit of distance. I love the feel of a shorter driver and don’t see myself going longer anytime soon.

been playing with a 3 wood shaft in my driver for the last couple of years. definitely helps with hitting the center of the face and as a result im just as long but with more control

I’m att 44.5 at the moment. I would go shorter but it’s the issue of getting a club built to the right feel that stops me. Paying 700 to 900 for a club that only gets used 6 or 7 times a round seems excessive.

I had been having a particularly difficult struggle finding fairways... So I built a 41" version of my G400 lst.... It is awesome, fairway finder like crazy, but I can only hit it max 260.

 

I then made another shaft and weight setup to play it at 43". This seems to be the sweet spot for me in terms of trade-off between consistently pure contact and lever length for clubhead speed. I can totally see swapping out depending on course length and width of fairways.

I’m 6’4” and just picked up a cobra F8+ at 44.5”. First time ever swinging a driver shorter than “standard.” Played a couple rounds and been hitting straight bullets at least as long if not longer than I’d been hitting with the other driver I’d been using (srixon 765). Love it so far

I used 43" steel shaft with old driver. I not considered about graphite shaft, I accepted 45 lengths with new driver.

 

Fairway wood for me locked 42.25 or 42 lengths and lead tapes add. I can't use 43 lengths on fairway woods for hard control.

Odd seeing this thread today, I went to the range this morning and experimented with choking about an inch on my cobra f6 and found I was hitting it more solid with a slight draw without losing any distance.

Not so much that it's longer or straighter, but it takes the sting off of the wild miss. It has surely saved me some OB off the tee.

Not me. Even at 5'7", I cannot hit a driver under 45". Well, I can, but it is low and left all day. For some reason, at 44" I'll have a launch 3* lower than the same driver at 45.5". I just get a much more consistent swing at 45.5".

Avg. golfer bought new TP M1 or M3 a driver with 45 lengths. Driving Range, high tee skyball pop scratched cute one on the driver crown...then sell from Internet EBay.

I cut my driver from 45 3/4 to 43.. well a new shaft. No more weak slice, my misses are left, hook. Not a snap hook though.

43.5" for me. Until this year, I was playing 44", and occasionally 44.5". I'd had a fitting few years ago that showed I swung a 43.25" steel shafted deiver 2-3 mph faster than my then in bag 44-1/8" graphite shafted stick. Took a few years to sink in, finally started playing around with shorter last year, and have stuck with it most of 2018 so far.

 

I think I've cut down a half dozen drivers this year, giving them all time on course.

 

Can't see going back longer.

43" for all those years with steel shaft.

43,5" with heavy graphite shafts.

Now with a 65 grams shaft I'm playing it at 44,25", but I'm struggling, so I just bought a new adapter with a nv95...don't know what finished length will be, I just trim until reaching desired swingweight, but I assume between 43,5" and 43,75".

The gamer at the moment is 44.00"

 

Im 6.0" wrist to floor 34", so im "dead on standard" for irons. (37.50" #6 iron), and for that i suggest 43.75 to 44.00" for most players, Elite and Pros can add up to 0.5" on that, or if irons is plus 0.5", we can add the same on the driver (44.50" driver when irons is plus 0.5")

I used to be a diehard D4 or bust golfer. Every club, minus the wedges, had to be D4. Lately I've just built the clubs and added lead tape til it "felt right". That's exactly what I recommend doing with the cut down driver. Once you find the right weight then maybe think about hotmelt or tip weights.

I played at 43 1/2” for the last couple years. Put in new shaft this year at 44”. Results have been positive, but I’m still considering taking off that 1/2”

44” but I choke down 1/2 inch and hit it damn near straight almost every time.

I think this winter I will build a 43” steel shafted driver for grins.

For those who replied, what weight shafts are you using? Are they more in the heavier range? Ie 70-80g?

I've got several choices I've been using lately, everything is 80g at least. ProtoPype 80, RIP Alpha 80, Motore F3 80, up to the SK Fiber Tour Trac 100.

 

To me, a 70g shaft is on the light side. 60 is right out.

I"m at 44" in my Rogue (but been playing between 43.5 - 44" for the past 3 drivers) and couldn't be happier. I find that the shorter length lends itself to better accuracy with little-to-no loss of distance.
