Who here plays their driver under 44.5" finished length???

Bringing up an old thread with an update. Installed the ATX 85TX, have it at 43 5/8" without grip. I'm going to leave the current weights in the head (M1). Going to see if having a lighter, shorter driver will increase my distance while still maintaining some level of control. As a side note, chopped down my three wood (M2DF) to now play at 42.25", still have DGSL X100 tipped 2.5" installed.

Went to 44" two years ago (from 45"). Better contact and more fairways with no perceptible loss in distance.

I bought a Hzrdus red from Ebay for my F8+ and didn’t check the length - was really hacked off when it arrived at least 1” short if not a bit more...was going to send it back and get “right stroppy” but thought I would give it a try. 6 months later it is still in the bag, my driving has improved no end in terms of dispersion and strike with no negative impact on my distance. I’m a convert!!!!

I play my Epic sz at 44.5" with HZRDUS 6.0 Yellow 76g shaft.

44.25" Here, I was fit into that length from a 45" and picked up a considerable amount of ball speed from finding the center more often.

I'm in the sub-44 club now... recently went from 44.25" down to 43.5" and really like it so far. I've never been good at getting a positive AoA on my driver so now I can swing it more like a 3W and get a trajectory (kinda trap draw-ish) that I can work with.

I cut my F9 shaft down last Friday to the tour length 44.25. Jury is still is out on this decision. Seems like I lost a few yards on my drives but control was a little better.

_My guess_ - Because you either aren't adding weight back to the head OR not adding _nearly_ enough weight.

 

People don't realize how much weight you really have to add back to make a club playable at 44". It's usually more than you can add with aftermarket weights alone. If you're playing 44" and your headweight isn't at least 205g+ it's likely going to come in at a SW way too low, even with a tip-heavy 80g+ shaft.

 

Solution is go to the range and slowly add lead tape to the back to the head until the lefts disappear and boom, you have your ideal driver headweight for the shortened shaft.

Usually play between 43-1/2 or 44. Current driver is 44.

Just tested an extra shaft I had laying around at 43.5" (HZRDUS Smoke)......well I'm shocked. Once you get the head weight correct, this just goes straight and plenty long. Technically, I might lose a little clubhead speed from my previous 45" but adding mass to the head may help ball speed jump? Just a thought. Either way it's middled each time and goes straight. Can't believe I've been playing this long and just realizing this.

Couple other notes....the lie angle on my driver (TM M5) is much better at the shorter length. It's 56* and at 45" the toe is way up. Now it's flat and has a better look. I'm considering moving the weights forward to kill my spin and hit ridiculously high bombs since I'm hitting center a lot. I'm scared to shorten my gamer (130 Rogue White) from 45" to 43.5" so might go somewhere in between after testing the shorter driver a bit longer.
