French Open on this course every year... when was it announced as Ryder Cup venue? How many of the Americans Team bothered to go and play it over the last couple of years?

Some American stars lost to players the average US golf fan couldn’t pick out of a police line up!

There you go.... some issues are self inflicted

Justin Thomas was the only one who showed up for the French Open. I don't think it is a coincidence that he was the best American player this week.

Meh. Maybe. Sure you would have liked to have seen 20 more Americans play, but in the end this was about finding a fairway off the tee. Most Euros were great and more than half the Americans tee balls betrayed them badly.

Yep, there was another Euro "fan" trashing Clarke on here in another thread - you lose, you're the worst, lol.

FYI, one of the criticisms of Clarke was picking "henchmen" like Bjorn, lol. Westwood was almost Phil-like at the last Ryder Cup, but in the end, U.S. played better made our captain look good.

PLAYERS HAVE TO PLAY, PERIOD. PERIOD. AND GOLF IS HARD.

Remember two years ago the Euros were criticized for not being broken up enough after the loss - stark contrast to the Tom Watson bashing/baby antics and crybaby faces of the U.S. four years ago. Maybe they are just a tighter group overall? You think?

I'm on record as saying this was a very smart setup. But I just dont like courses like this for match play events. For a major? Absolutely incredible. But for match play, I like guys to at least have an option if they are a little wayward off the tee. Not a perfect lie, not 100 yard wide fairways. But if you're only 5 yards off the fairway? Nah, its not my thing.

Again - very smart choice by the Euros. I just didnt care for it for this particular event.

For some reason there was no "like" button next to this post, so I will have to reply my agreement instead. It still worked out pretty well as a venue, but the rough was a little overdone.

Ugh. Jordan, Bubba, Phil and Jim need to issue an apology for wasting the PGA of America's money on a plane ticket. What a disgrace. But at least they play lights out at those St. Jude and Greenbriar type courses.

It will be interesting to find out how many US players actually did want to play in the French Open this year, but weren't allowed to by the PGA Tour commissioner.

That would be zero.

If a dozen PGA Tour pros wanted to go over and play the French Open this year to get ready for the Ryder Cup, the PGA Tour would have put the smackdown on the idea and told them NO. You want to play this week, go play Tiger's tournament.

None of them would have beaten Molinari in DC either.

Agree, too USGA over the top with the rough, although it will be called "smart" - but not a fan favorite and takes away a lot of the game in favor of fairways being the absolute premium.

Mostly I'm upset because what are we going to do? Grow the rough up? Nope, and if we make it more generous, lol, Euros still hit greens and make putts.

BS and no reason for them to all be going to the French Open - what's that tall, thick stuff out there? Don't hit into it, lol.

Course was a difference maker, but U.S. not playing the French Open is just another made up excuse for losing.

No, the point is they are tight.

Well, Noren just made his putt. I really hope that our fans coming to Wisconsin in 2020 are as good as these fans in Paris were.

Def won't be any inappropriate yelling in Wisconsin. Lol

They're saying "moo" not "boo".

The PGA Tour would have said exactly nothing about it if more guys had gone over with JT - these guys are independent contractors. They dont take direction from anyone on their schedule.

What's wrong with accuracy being a premium? World class players should be able to figure out a way to hit fairways

Can we stop awarding the captainship to the loser generation of Ryder Cuppers? That would include Furyk, Phil, and Tiger. If it means giving it to Azinger every year then so be it. When you get sick of Azinger there's always Freddie.

Can someone explain why Azinger was not the captain a second time, after his success? Maybe he didn't want it, but I doubt it

Because the PGA of America doesn't want to win as badly as Europe does. They want to dole out favors and pad their bottom lines. I'm guessing making Zinger a Jacklin-style perma captain would've resulted in him asking for some sort of salary. Can't have that. This is a charitable endeavor :)

Really? This was a real challenge and the course was setup the same for both teams. I’m sorry Americans are only used to play in Country Club setups.

The rough is supposed to be a penalty, the fairway is the target. I would agree with your premise if both teams were playing a different setup, but they didn’t. I think it was a fair test and it was fun to watch. Perhaps, the PGA tour needs to toughen up the courses.

And I understand is your opinion, so don’t get offended, I respect your opinion.

That’s been the rub for some time. Setting the course up to favor the US team favors everyone. The Euros aren’t exactly short off of the tee either.

HaHa, just ask DJ after having to put the rangefinder on Poutler's ball to see it ahead of him on the last!
