Late Sept in Wisconsin on the shores of a Great Lake....sounds like another home game for Europe

Indeed. Especially as the 60s fahrenheit is apparently considered cold now? TBF, I didn't hear the players say that, but NBC brought it up every morning.

It's not cold but it's a lot cooler than 80+. Besides, it was much colder on Friday morning/Saturday morning. Like sub-50. That's not warm.

JT was the US's best player. Was he the only one that came over for the Open de France?

Yes. Using his Citibank app he was able to quickly and securely purchase his tickets and order Euros for his trip... woah, what happened there? I guess maybe those commercials do seep in after a while ;)

The real problem here is that one team takes the Ryder Cup seriously and does the necessary physical and mental preparation, and the other team treats it as an exhibition and an excuse to party. If one team doesn't even take the event seriously then why should fans take the event seriously?

See Holy Moses? As if on queue, lol*

*Referring to other thread where I was saying 'wanting it more' is in the Top 5 excuses for the US loss. Excellent to have a fresh example.

I personally think the euros are just set up better. Look at the familiarity of this course to these players (look at the augmented fairways, juvenile grass around the fairways, penal stuff).

The courses that the US should pick should be south of the mason-dixon line. Play something like the blue monster.

Overall, some bright spots in a familiar black cloud. Finau impressed me. Koepka impressed me.. so did JT and Webb.

Spieth, DJ, fowler and Reed were all disasters.

Dont get me started on FIGJAM, was he I'll? He looked very bad.

Good win for the euros, tough one to swallow for us Yankees. Well get them next time.

Pretty sure you can pencil in Le Golf National for 2026

More than likely will be Adare Major in Ireland. JP has probably already made the right donations.

That's it. They didn't refurb it for nothing. If it doesn't get '26, it has to get '30. Although wasn't there some odd rumour about some development in Lancashire?

The next Ryder Cup in Europe might not be in Rome because the course can’t get the infrastructure together? Rich Lerner said it could back to Gleneagles.

The US needs to take more a strategic approach to setting up US courses that favors their players as well and make Captain's picks whose game suits the venue.

They already do hence Hazeltine being reduced to a pitch and putt course with no rough and centre pins last time out. Maybe the Australian pga could take over the course set-up every year to make it independent and fair.

I don't know if Team Europe like each other better, know the course better, I do know they played from the fairway more, played shots that gave their partners chances more, and had a lot of guys that are not great putters, make a bunch of putts. In other words, they played better. I wanted the USA to win, but I really appreciate how Europe played. Big congrats to Europe.

While many of them do live and play on this side of the pond for the big show, They have all cut their teeth playing on the Euro tour, playing many countries, time zones, different type courses, many languages. and they have practiced at Paris. Home field advantage makes a difference

The Tiger and Phil show in November sure in hell got a lot less interesting. I wouldn't pay a dime to watch that crap.

It was always a dumb idea given their age. But I guess good for them that they managed to get whoever to pony up $9 million for this. Not sure how the financiers are going to make their money back.

What was everyones fav match?

Had to say that JT vs Rory match was awesome minus the absolute collapse of rory on 18...

Brooks vs Casey was solid too.

Also MVP has to me F Molinari??

If JT/Rory were 1/2ing holes with birdies yes, but all those lips and close calls took some of the edge off.

Poulter-DJ for me.

Noren-Dechambeau for an honourable mention. Didn't see a lot of it, but eff me that putt on 18 was just awesome and that 2nd shot on 14! Yowza!

I wonder why they scheduled the Ryder Cup the week after the Tour Championship and playoffs. They should give the players a week or two to decompress after the playoffs. The playoffs is a long stretch of golf and then add the Ryder Cup right after is tough. I think quite a few of the players looked spent the whole week.

Have been traveling, but there is a lot I want to download on:

  • Furyk was the goat here. I never got the impression he had command of this team - the Euros wanted to win for Bjorn and there was zero evidence the Americans we "playing for Furyk" in any way. It was more like "Jim and friends" and they played with little passion.
  • We will likely never know the reason Spieth/Reed was broken up, but if we believe Justine Reed's tweet (no matter what you think of her), and Spieth's bromance with JT, it was Spieth that forced the move. I get wanting to fulfill what is probably a lifelong dream to play with your childhood friend, but I think that gutted this team. JT was strong enough to carry another team and you don't break up a team like that - they will get over whatever personal differences they had and if it was untenable after the first match, then break them up.
  • Finau was clearly the hottest player besides JT and not playing him in the afternoon on Saturday was a mistake - that is on the captain for not recognizing it.
  • Dechambeau was screwed both in being paired with Phil in Foursomes and not being given a chance at Fourballs. He's #7 in birdies on tour and I have to believe that playing your own ball is an easier transition into a big event like this rather than Foursomes.
  • Tiger lacked energy until maybe hole #11 today. Furyk needs to recognize that - again, I never felt like Jim was really doing anything to read his team. He wanted to play everyone on Day 1, which compromised his afternoon pairings, and that cost the team.
  • Both teams play the same course and kudos to Bjorn for advantaging his team in the setup, but as much fun as all those island greens were, I'd prefer a Ryder Cup where I felt it was won through the team that played the best and not won by the team that made the least mistakes. Somewhere between the Hazeltine setup and this would be good - whatever that is.

I have to assume that either Stricker or Phil will be the captain in 2020, but I'd honestly do whatever they can to bring back Azinger and maybe give it to him for the next 2 Ryder Cups. It would be interesting to see what a captain does if they were given a home and away Ryder Cup to prepare for. Whatever credit you want to give to the "pod system", I felt that it at least gave some direction to the pairings and this year it almost felt like Furyk drew pairings out of a hat.

Congrats to the Euros - well deserved!

I don't know if its just me but I have a feeling the US team or many of them don't give a hoot about this event or playing for country and all that.Of course they could never say it publicly but to shelp to Paris with the family after a long season and grueling playoff schedule at the end of the season traveling to Paris wasn't high on their bucket list. Also they must have had a bit of reservations about Paris and France and terrorism but couldn't say that either. They play a little better at home but still if they were given a real CHOICE with no repercussions from fans and the press most would let it pass by. Just my opinion.

Had nothing to do with course setup or anything else, Euros are better at this. And they have been for quite some time. Their games travel better and they know how to play teams.

European tour is my favorite early a.m. weekend t.v. Even when they add a wrinkle like the shot clock it's better golf than the PGA Tour. It just is.

Congrats to the Euro team.

Wouldn't go that far didnt US win two years ago at home, they've got a system that needs bit of twerking, but Euros just played well at home!

Really?

Not to stereotype the ladies, but I bet you they loved it... happy wife=happy life.

They are not flying coach.

Terrorism? They have a much better chance getting shot in a carjacking somewhere between East Lake and the airport.

Scott, Spieth, and McIlroy had no trouble (eventhough they got some stick)bailing on the Olympics. If they really really didn't want to play, they could bail.

It was fun to watch, but clearly the best US players didn't do well this year. I think mainly due to the course setup.

The course setup was clearly an advantage for the European players and not the US bombers. The reason being was it was a course setup for more for accuracy (narrow fairways, long rough, lots of water). Heavy penalty for not hitting fairways at Le Golf National. That is why Molinari won so many matches. He is one of the most accurate ball strikers.

The US needs to take more a strategic approach to setting up US courses that favors their players as well and make Captain's picks whose game suits the venue.

These guys are professionals. They should hit fairways more often than not. I find bomb and gouge boring. No course management involved, no finesse...just hit it as far as you can and don't worry about the "rough". This was great course set-up. I wish more PGA Tour tournaments were set up like this.

If wide fairways and short rough are what is required for the US to win a RC, then golf is all the poorer for it.

You guys really thought we were going to win this Ryder cup??? It was in Europe where we never win, on a course we don't play that they do every year and the week after everyone in USA team has been grinding out the end of season. We had maybe a slight chance to win

I'm not sure why many think the Fed Ex Cup is part of the reason US lost? Weren't most of Europe's team also competing in the Fed Ex Cup? Don't most of them also live in US and had to deal with he same jet leg? That's all a wash. Europe was in the same boat as US. Fed Ex Cup can't be an excuse for US looking tired and worn down. Rose seemed to have some energy to play this weekend.
