Unbelievable putter

Awesome job! Here is my Jeff McCoy Scratch Hand Made and hand scraped face 8802 style. 380 grams. A lot can be done with just your hands! Great start!

While definitely an 8802 style putter, I would put it more in line with the George Low Wizard 600 profile, due to the shorter length of the blade, and the heftier flange.

Us old farts have seen these things....

Yep the blade is a little stubby length wise-- I have a Ran Gene Littler like that and believe it of not a Lynx. But I will double guarantee you Ari at Scratch put better metal in that one than either my Littler or Lynx. If that putter feels anything like his wedges then it will be outstanding

Don't tell me that you found a Scratch wedge in the scrap pile

Engine looks cool. No clue what the blower or the manifold is. Lifting my hood can prove challenging at times. Might lose a finger if I attempted to build a putter.

He custom built an adapter plate so that his blower would fit on the intake manifold. Not sure how he got it flat enough without a machining device but he must have.

The upper flange was made from a solid plate of aluminum that was 1/2" thick. The base was made out if 1" plate. The sides were 1/8" that were welded together to form a box. Intake ports were shaped in the 1" base. Then an intercooler core was fitted in and plumbed. The upper flange that the blower mounted to needed minimum massaging to insure a flat surface. It was done with a big belt sander and constantly checking with a straight edge. Made my own gasket from sheet material and some RTV black. System worked extremely well and I ran the combo for 3 years. Two months start to finish then raced it against the xplorer Xpress Mustangs and destroyed every one. The owner of the company insulted the crap out of me and he was the reason I built it in the first place to prove a concept. When he saw what I built he redesigned his whole kit.

I feel awful for openly laughing at that last post Opinder.

I experienced first time on my design putter. I examined on my putter stainless steel is too heavy weight. Failures to design!!

I can second time but too hard work on stainless steel.

I picked the putter shiny stainless steel beautiful on my palm. I wondered...my designer putter was fine...need loss weights.

Best putter thread ever.....

First off, trol or not, we are all here for entertainment and he is delivering in spades. Wouldn’t want to play a round with anyone who made serious negative comments.....lighten up.

Second. Big props for doing it. The fact you did something is more than most will do.

Third. It is first gen prototype Guys, jeez. Of course it is a tad rough, wait until he gets the to the final run production stage. I feel like I should try to buy this from him just in case he is the next big name in putters lol.....

Great work op, and more importantly your attitude and humor is awesome.

Opinder, take it to a golf shop with a loft and lie machine and have it adjusted to your desired numbers.

Keep it up!

Don't give up!!!

I done it tomorrow test real greens practice. My putter SS by handmake myself. It's 495 grams. (Struggle)

I'd call this an excellent first effort OP. You must have learned quite a bit doing it so don't stop now - make another one! Definitely do not throw this first one away. For that matter why not bash away at it some more? You've still got plenty of weight there. Drill some more holes to reduce the weight and belt-sand some loft and sole relief into it.

I'll take it to a golf shop with check lie and a loft.

Phil Michelson talks about optimum roll with putter.

Dude, massive bonus points for crafting putter using Japanese forgmaster sword techniques with performance inspired by Phil's theory of optimal roll. You tube really playing a key roll in societal advancements.

This. You still have so much extra material in those bumpers, you can get that thing down to 400 grams in my opinion

Some hand filing on the rough spots and to the face to add loft and you might have something serviceable here. I know I was doubtful for a long time on this project, but with the limited tools, you've done a pretty decent job.

I think it is awesome any time someone sets out to make something. As we get older that childlike wonderment, creativity and attempts at doing things regardless of perceived failure/risk diminishes. At the same time, we become more critical of those actually doing stuff. I am as guilty as anyone with this at times.

I have to say, I have been on the ledge for years regarding attempting to making putters, and while I decided to so before this thread, this thread is just more affirmation to not look at all of the valid reasons not to, but just do it and see what happens. YOLO.

I guess first place to start is Japanese master forging and putting theory videos and I will be on my way!

First-rate troll job in progress here IMO, I'm guessing it ends with an "after" photo that's either:

A) A big joke, like Etiger said in #56

B) A finished putter taken elsewhere from the web (BORING!)

C) A finished putter that was really crafted from the photo posted in #60, whether created by OP's actually capable hands or those of someone he knows or will pay to do so. Looking at what remains, there's still a workable head in there somewhere:

image_zpsxkz5fdwy.jpeg

If this is a Choose Your Own Adventure, I choose C.

Please don't disappoint OP!

OP, my sincerest apology and gratitude for a thoroughly entertaining and satisfying option "D"! :hi:

I still see weight on there that could be removed keep going! I think you can get it under 400. I'd contour the heel and toe of the sole and keep working those bumpers. Also shave the back of the sole a little bit giving the sole a bit of negative bounce makes it sit better on the ground. In all honesty that's an impressive piece of work for a hobbiest with minimal tools.
