Irons that gave you the most enjoyment.

I put 800+ rounds on a set of Titleist DCI 990 irons from roughly 2001-2009 so obviously that's the most total enjoyment I'm ever going to get from a set. None of the irons I've owned before or since have stuck around for longer than 250-300 rounds (2-1/2 years).

The biggest "Wow" experience I've ever had was when I switched in 2011 from "players cavity-back" irons such as Razr X Forged and those DCI 990's to a set of Ping G20 irons. Being able to hit 10-15 really high, straight, long, solid iron shots in a round instead of maybe 3-4 times a round when I happened to make an unusually good swing was eye-opening.

I can't go back now, the "enjoyment per round" has been much higher with my Ping G-series irons (G20, then G30, now G) than with the smaller-headed, thinner-soled players clubs. Who knows, maybe I'll still be playing the G set in 2023 and blow through my old cumulative enjoyment record!

Also Titleist 990's but now the PXG combo set is to die for!

To die for would be about right if I ever brought a set of those home and showed them to my wife!

Heroes program..... best deal on planet.....especially for US Lefties!

I dont need new clubs, but I want to buy some and I was thinking what the criteria for choosing them should be, and it has to be fun. This is pretty hard to quantify with lumps of metal, but i remember the first time I hit a set of Taylor Made R7 irons and the ball just jumped off of the club face, the sound was brilliant and I loved the clubs. Which clubs did you enjoy the most?

R7 tp are a personal fav too. Loved them!

Take your pic! Adams was putting out some fantastic irons for several years and I had played almost all of them in the player's cavity range (only regret was not getting the CMBs). Amongst the sets from Ping, Titleist, Taylor Made, Mizuno, Cleveland and Srixon that I had owned and loved over the years, the Adams irons were always the favorites. Not many people had them and they would certainly turn heads at tournaments....on several occasions, new playing partners wanted to go hit them on the range after the round. Once they would hit them, you could just see the smirk on their face and the disbelief that they liked everything about an iron that came from Adams. :)

My first set of blades the Mizuno MP68’s.

They gave me a greater enjoyment in hitting golf shots and a greater love for the game in general

Currently it’s the TaylorMade P790 but just for fun I’m itching to try a set of one length !! Forged or f7 ?

The one length are great at first and you think why have I not been using these! then, you slowly realize the gaps at the long side are too tight, 3, 4, and 5 are way too close together. and for me, the short irons spun too much. So the fun lasted about 3 rounds for me before they had to leave :)

My favorites were the mp-32

Took me a while to find the right version, I used these A4s that had the slightly built up 3 and 4 irons, not the full blown hybrids they sold retail. I'm so mad I got rid of these irons, they were stupid good.

While my Srixons are great, my first "real" (not hand-me down) clubs was a set of Scratch EZ-1s. They were used, but looked practically brand new. It was love until it wasn't.

Its between the Titleist 962b’s and Callaway X14 pro series for me. Neither set should have performed the way they did.

Or was it the set of Maxfli DP40’s?

How can you go wrong for $75? I didn't like the stock c-staper, but had them for a while with S300s and they were pretty sweet.

I bought these new and returned them because of the C Tapers. I still don’t know how anybody hits those shafts.

FWIW when I flushed it, it was as pure as anything.

Like most here I've owned more sets of irons than I can count over the years but the set I had my most consistent scoring year I had a set of inexpensive Acer XS Pro's (Hireko) in the bag. They were wonderful. Very compact head with minimal offset. A real player's cavity back. Could do anything with them. Now I'm sad. :(

I have to say, since 2008, I have owned and played a set of Titleist AP1’s. I love those irons, but after 10 years it was time for a change.

Due to my work I didn’t really had the time to play, but maybe twice a month, so I didn’t feel the need to buy new ones.

Now I’m retired, so I play everyday and I went with a full fitting and a new set. The AP1’s were great!

Bridgestone GC Mid

Midsize cast iron, thin top line, great feel. Never knew a cast iron could feel this good.

Maxfli Revolution Red Dot

Similar to the GC Mid, midsize, thin top line, and soft feel.

Mp33 by far. I bought into the fat shaft gimmick from Wilson back in the day. Played those irons for many years. The mp33 combined with DG s300 shafts were a different world. Started hitting the ball straighter and just more consistent altogether.

Recently purchased a set of jpx900 tours and they show a similar level.of promise. Putting ctapers in them so we'll see if a move away from dg is good or bad.
