2-PW set of S59 Tour irons with ZZ65’s with cushin inserts. I’d still be playing those if the grooves were legal in professional tournaments.   S55/56’s have been just as good to me, and I think they

Just put a set of 900 Forged in the bag with ProjX LX 6.5s - WOW. Different class of ball flight. Crazy forgiving.

By far the best set of irons I've ever owned. So much so that at least 6 other members of my club have put them in play after trying mine.

So far MP 54's. Not mega forgiving but buttery soft when hit in the middle. I once hit a Supersoft with a 7i and actually wasn't sure if I even made contact with the ball.

Two sets for me:

1. Titleist DCI981 SL with TT Lite shafts...loved those things.

AND

2> Ping i5's with AWT Kushin shafts in them. Bought some i20's and thought I'd love them and sold the i5's. Girlfriend told me not to, but I did. Stupid move, but sold the i20's and bought some iE1's and they're ALMOST as good as the i5's. Love the iE1's.....

Play PIRETTI putters!!!

Have to be my first new, never been hit, fresh out of the box, Mizuno Mx23. Up to that point I had a variety of used Pings, Callaway, etc, but the MX 23 was my biggest purchase at the time, and the irons which helped me go from a weekend hack to a decent 6 handicap over a period of years. I literally played them until the groves on the PW were almost gone. The pleasure they gave me was the opportunity to grow as a player, and really appreciate a finely forged iron and its benefits, at least for my game at the time.

I’ve had my Mizuno JPX900 Forged irons all year, and I love them. Clubmakers have gotten better, but I don’t like the feel or sound of cast irons. I don’t like a fat top line, or way oversized face. I don’t like the extreme jacked up lofts some GI/SGI clubs spec at these days. But I can’t handle forged blades anymore, I need a bigger “sweet spot.” So the 900F was the best choice for me, and believe me I hit everything. Sweet feel, great looks, and surprisingly forgiving on off center hits within reason. The lofts are jacked up one club vs classic lofts, I’d rather they weren’t - but at least they aren’t jacked up 2 clubs like some these days (e.g. TM M4). YMMV

Numbers stamped on irons these days are meaningless, but that horse has been beaten enough.

This week, the PGA Tour is at TPC San Antonio on the Oaks Course for the Valero Texas Open. GolfWRX was on-site Tuesday to catch a glimpse into the bags of some of the world’s top golfers.

The field of 144 is getting ready to battle starting Thursday for the $7.7 million purse, with $1.386 million going to the winner. The tournament is also the last event where players can qualify for The Masters, just like Canadian Corey Conners did last year.
