I’m in the market for a new driver this year and I’m not worried about cost within reason. Can’t wait to try out M5, Flash, G410, PXG, and shaft combos to see what performs. Coming from the original Callaway FT Optiforce (2013) so hoping for noticeable gains.

You picked a great year for a driver upgrade!

Radiman-

Good strikes ( high toe ) I saw as much as 4 mph over rogue. Later the next week that rogue cracked. I posted that in 2 threads at least.

Seriously, do some of the members on here have these types of conversations after EVERY new club announcement, every year?

Reminds me of my audiophile buddies debating the sound difference of 10 vs 12 gauge speaker wire...

Lol. That and feet of the wire run. Make a difference.

13 gauge speaker wire craps over both 10 and 12 gauge rubbish.

Either you know what you’re talking about and it’s funny, or, you have no idea what you’re talking about and it’s even funnier!

This is crazy posting. So based on my reading of the numerous posts in this thread, it seems we are getting a driver that gives little additional ball speed (and distance) and everyone is complaining. But what we get is a driver that gives us better dispersion all over the face (this is a bad thing)? Nope, if you hit it in the middle of the face you don't get much if any additional distance. But if you don't hit the middle, you get similar distance.......seems pretty smart for TM to go after a market where Ping pretty much dominated last year with the G400 Max. Which is better? Who knows, but if I was watching and wanted to sell golf clubs, I would surely be paying attention to Ping. So the end result is we are all faster over the entire face, I am certainly not one to complain about that. .

You sound upset.

Not upset in the least. I would say most others are upset due to no additional distance. This looks like a dispersion gain to me. I am all about it. Really don't see much opportunity to improve distance in any event.

I just don't get this. How do you know there's no additional distance without hitting it yourself and comparing? That's the one bad thing about all these reviews. Everyone thinks that the results the youtube guys get are going to be the exact same results they get. Hit it and then b**** if there's no additional distance. Then also don't buy it. Pretty simple.

Plenty of us don’t have the option to hit and then buy. I mean you can hit it in stock form. But that’s it. Only way to test it. Is to buy. Then build to suit. Then take to the course. By then you’re 600 plus in and can resell for $400. Maybe. So yes. Reviews of a guy with tons of available data helps. It gives one an idea of what to expect.

Well and fine, but again, "an idea" =/= "no additional distance" for you in particular, necessarily. If you (generalized) were able to discern if you were going to gain distance from a club without hitting it, driving ranges, fitters and retailers would cease to exist.

I do sympathize and I'm very sorry if you or anyone else cannot try a new club before you buy. But Rick Shiels' experience should not dictate whether or not you decide to give it a whirl.

My $.02. I'm out.

Watched video comparing Flash sz vs M5 with same shafts....the sound differential was incredible!

These reviewers just don't get it. They're all eliminating the big misses.

That's what these drivers are supposed to be limiting. If you only show all good strikes then you've missed the point of the driver. We need to see how many times you hit it poorly and how that poor strike ended up.

Second review of the M5 where the launch and height are significantly higher...by comparison to prior M drivers while the spin is remaining low.

Would be nice to see the M5 vs M5 Tour to see how much difference between the two.

It’s nice that you can say that around these parts and not have the fanboys attack.

Sound is definitely something that will keep me from buying something. G/g30, titleist 915 were some that sounded way to loud for my liking

The 915 was sneaky loud. I didn't notice it until I hit it in an indoor Sim. Made my ears ring. From that point on, that noise stood out at all times. Thankfully z it was my buddy's and I didn't actually have to hit it. Just hear it every time he teed off.

Thanks for the link. By far the most thorough compare of the M5 and epic flash SZ... same exact shaft with heads lofted as close together as possible. Interesting that this reviewer found the exact same ball speed. The M5 had higher avg ball speed with a slightly lower ss. Basically, they perform the same. The M5 was 1-2 yds more in carry, but that is negligible. Interestingly, you had people in this thread taking mental swan dives off rocky cliffs because of sheils' review yesterday and now this guy comes with something different.... Basically, all of these drivers are going to perform well and differently in everybody's hands.... The biggest takeaway from this review is that the epic flash sounds like an aluminum bat, or a Ping G30, which had been the rumor for a month. The M series sound really good this time around. I'd like to see a M6 review from this outfit- that's the one I'm most interested in.

When you hit the Epic Flash (mine is the SZ), it sounds A LOT like an aluminum bat. Honestly, I've not liked TaylorMade as a company, or their products for the better part of 10 years now, and haven't brought them into my proshop for resale in that length of time. But after having both product lines in hand, and attempting to play the Flash SZ for over a month now, I'm switching to the M5. I just can't play the Flash due to the sound and feel being so far from what Callaway has produced the last two generations. I'm sending the Flash back to Callaway, and going with TaylorMade this year (in the proshop for resale as well). Something I honestly never thought I'd do prior to this year.

I think the biggest take away so far from the m5/m6 is that they are spinning less I know for the most part was a general consensus twist face increased spin from previous TaylorMade drivers so if they were able to tweak it to get the spin down and keep the positives of the twist face that’s a great step forward
