Taylormade M5 & M6 Woods - Pics added page 46

I doubt Tiger will game any new stuff for the match, but I would not be surprised if there were some "spy" shots of Tiger warming up with the M5 on game day.

+1

A $9,000,000 match is maybe not the best time put a new club in the bag (I'm sure he's hit for a couple weeks/month already, but a bit risky maybe).

Sorry haven't read the whole thread. Has anyone heard anything about the new line? Are they keeping the Y track, going back to T track?

When do you think we’ll get our first glimpse of these?

for a possible +$500 price range, I don't care if we never see them.

Unfortunately, that appears to be the trend. The big 4 will all be $500 or more by the sound of it (TM, Cally, Titleist, Ping)

All I have to say is COR .830 / 254CT set circa 2006

M3 was fantastic, m4 was awesome

Landed with a ping g400 , IMOP the unofficial “M7” , m3 spin + m4 forgiveness & some

Did I need them all , prob not , do I have a tour issue superfast TP 2.0 LCG from 2010 that’s goes just about as far yup! (Not quite as low spin)

Discretionary income folks , nor are these blue chip stocks, we all would prob play better with our old gear. Fact that these guys got us coming back YOY mad props to their marketing groups..... first hit is for free! Pay the money or seek therapy for club addiction

The COR being set doesn't mean that driver performance cant improve. I thought MGS had put that suggestion to bed.

I don’t think MGS did, if I remember correctly. COR/CT has been maxed for years. Aerodynamics and higher launch/lower spin can give some players more distance, but that’s not from the face rebounding any more than it did in 2007.

The post to which you replied is saying that just because CT scores have been at the limit (+tolerance) for years, that doesn't mean driver performance can't get better. It wasn't claiming anything about face rebounding improving. Driver performance is not all about CT as so many people on this site like to assume. Sure, if we all hit it out of the dead middle every single shot, then that would be true. But we don't, nor do tour pros. There is still a lot of room for companies to improve performance by increasing speed across the face and bringing more of those areas up to the CT limit. Sweet spots get fractionally bigger every year and that trend will continue for a while, I think.

Look at the ball speed gains people had with the Epic after it was released. How could those have been possible if CT scores limited driver performance? Surely Callaway hadn't been releasing low CT drivers up until the Epic, right? Of course they weren't. Epic had gains because Callaway finally figured out how to fix a flaw in their past designs that robbed energy at impact due to crown deformation. It had the benefit of keeping speed up across more of the face and folks noticed.

Lost in all the Twist Face talk this year was the Hammerhead slot on M3/M4. Ball speed was improved on low face strikes, plus the bars stiffened everything and made it possible to thin the face in spots to increase speed across more of the face. That was a legit improvement, yet all anyone wants to do is argue about which company manipulated bulge and roll first.

Driver improvements can still be made despite bumping up against the CT limit and I'm excited to see what TaylorMade has in store for 2019. I feel this is going to be the release where they show off their answer to the drivers other companies have released in the past couple of years. (And I still do not expect Tiger to have a 2019 model in the Match or at the Hero).

Thanks for the post. Points taken.

Agreed that mis-hit distance can be marginally improved. Sounds like we agree that distance is pretty much maxed out of the middle, just a matter of more/less optimal driver fit. I think a lot of players get a good driver fit and think that they’re topped out, when in fact they are not. So many variables in a driver fitting, especially when new heads and shafts with different launch and spin characteristics are constantly coming out.

(I didn’t see better performance with Jailbreak over my LTD, XTD, or 919THI. I feel that a good variable thickness face design can do as much as reinforcing bars.)

Not sure I want super high ball speeds way out on the toe or heel, but that’s another topic.

but that's the trick isn't it. OEMS finding out where people tend to hit it on the face and make it hot. I'm sure through data they collect during the prototype phasing of new shapes and what not, they are looking where people are hitting it on the face and where the misses are. Thats why twist face made sense. Tmade felt they needed more forgiveness on heal and toe shots. that's where the story Twist face came from. and each new model people are either gonna hit a certain spot more that others so they see gains. and boom.

Prelaunch M5 M6 fittings announced at our club Dec 13th!

Photos will be out somewhere before this date I would bet....

Great news! Only a few more weeks of waiting...

That seems way too early. I have my doubts

It's hard to go off past releases because they were geared around the PGA Show. Things will be a little different this year.

If Taylormade was feeling risky and Tiger was blasting that thing around the course Friday, they would be overrun with demand. If I was in control of their marketing I would say do it.

Here's a good question. Obviously Tiger is a creature of habit and hasn't changed equipment much over the years so now that he found a driver he can keep in play will/when will he change to the new offering?

It’s a good question, but an almost impossible one to answer at the moment without any knowledge of the M5/M6.

Everyone just needs to relax good Lord, they will come, knowing what the stock shafts are isn’t going to change the fact that they’re not due out until February, just breathe. I get wanting to see them but stock shafts? Come on we haven’t even seen the colorway yet.

Plus does it matter anyways? It’s not like anyone on wrx will be playing a stock shaft

I'd say the stock shafts are a lot more important than the colorway. It is the Pre-Release forum after all. A lot of speculation goes on in these parts. Besides, it's the off season in a lot of areas. People get golf antsy.

Doesn't TM usually announce products for the upcoming year by now?

With the exception of the original M1, which was announced in September 2015, the last few lines have been announced around the beginning of the new year. The 2017 M1/M2 were announced on Dec 6, 2016, and the M3/M4 were announced on Jan 2, 2018.

If you go back farther, the R15 was announced about this time of year. SLDR was a late summer release
