Hi guys....I'm a picker sweeper of the ball with a 10.2 index. I hit a lot of thin shots and very occasionally a worm burner, I'm consistent! Without taking lessons/changing my swing, etc. will adding a 1/2" to my irons "help" me get down to the ball with everything else the same? Thanks.

Probably not.... set up with your weight stacked on your left side ( if you're a right handed player ) and practice . Fix your attack angle before modifying your clubs.

Some call it the Stack and Tilt ...

Not a chance. Take a lesson with any creditable PGA teaching pro in your area and you will be hitting the ball better.

How tall are you? Put some face tape on your 7 iron, shots on the toe generally mean a club is too long. Try a demo +1/2" and see if you impact pattern improves to the center.

If you are hitting your irons thin because they are 1/2" too short then you should be hitting your longest iron thin and whiffing on the rest of them. Think about it. Now if you are using single length irons and hitting them all thin, then all bets are off.

I actually hit my longest iron (a 5) the best?

You likely have a swing flaw causing you to lose your spine angle. Find out the cause first.

If you do this with all your clubs at your current length logically it will not fix anything. You will just adjust to the difference and have the same bad habit

This right here,

You will stand up a little bit more to adjust for the length and still have the same problem.

Take a 9 iron, tees some balls up on the range, put a tee about 3 inches out in front of the ball. Hit the ball and make sure you break the second tee.

Also take your 5 iron, put balls on the ground about 5 inches to the outside of your front foot.

Hit the ball. Both drills will help you stay down on the ball through impact.

Dang, I think I need to try this to see if I can break the tee. I know I don't hit down on the ball and more of a sweep so I get like no yardage! :)

Not true. For a year I hit pw - Lw like crap. Finally damned on me I couldn’t reach the ball. Lw - pw same length now as 3/4 over standard pw. Then progress up 3/8 inch inbetween each. Been this way for 3 years. I’ll never go back. You are thinking about it backwards.

    • Sony Open Pics from January 11, 2022 Part 1
I was able to get out to the Sony Open today to take a few pics.  I guess due to Covid precautions they kept the spectators pretty far from the players.  Also due to camera restrictions they've put in place, I wasn't able to bring the big lens like I normally do. Hopefully they'll ease up on the ropes and I'll be able to get more pics tomorrow!
