Question for you Scotty Cameron Experts

So I bit the bullet and bought a brand new 2018 Cameron Select Newport 2. As you know, it cost a small fortune but I've always wanted one.

It is 34 inches with 15 gram weights. I'd love something a bit heavier (25 gram weights) and I've read a bit on this site about removing the weights at home.

Several questions. Should I send it back to Scotty to get him to put the 25 gram weights in? I have never removed weights and I'd hate to screw this beauty up by scratching or wrecking the weights or holes. If it's fairly easy to remove them, is the best approach boiling water? Also, I know different Scotty Camerons have different weights and they all don't fit. Where would I get 25 gram weights to fit this putter? Do folks use OEM weights or aftermarket and are the aftermarket weights decent?

Any help/advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Bottom line bro, taking those weights out is not a big deal. Not worth your time to send it somewhere. Boiling water worst case scenario. Ive got several Camerons and never had a problem taking weights out.

Edit: replacement weights typically on Ebay also...

I had a 2014 Select Newport 2 circle H with the heavy weights and had a difficult time getting them out the first time. Boiling water didn’t not work. What finally worked was getting the Scotty wrench that attaches to a socket wrench and not the hand wrench. The socket wrench allowed me to put enough controlled torque to get it out. I’ve had a few other Scotty’s with 10g or 15g weights that were easy to change. Not sure if there was a little glue in the circle H or just the heavier weights had more thread that was hard to loosen.

Get a heat gun at Lowe’s. That’s the easiest way to loosen up the adhesive on the weights. It doesn’t take long and you won’t damage the putter.

I've always just hit the weights with a hair dryer for a few beats and then they come right out. Definitely not worth sending it out, once you get used to changing them you can switch them around whenever you get the need to tinker!

This...or if you have a heat gun directed at just the sole weights will loosen the loctite that is used at the factory. I have also had brand new Camerons with no loctite on the weight and they unscrewed super easily.

Well that was super easy. I had the thing all taped up and I was nervous as hell with the hair dryer and heat gun. Tried to loosen one without any heat and it popped out without a problem. Very easy and hardly any force. Must not be any glue in the 2018's at all.

Thanks everyone. New weights are in and its awesome.
