Poll: Will Tiger Break Jacks Major Record?

Pigems

Recommended Posts

Now that he’s healthy and playing well again, this question comes back into play. So, what do you think? Does he do it? Yes, No, Maybe. Feel free to explain the reasoning behind your answers below. I’m curious to see where the majority stands after the Win on the weekend.

Also, if he does break the record. Does he become the official undisputed GOAT?

Have a great day everyone, thanks for stopping by and voting. :)

Winning majors isn't automatic even if you're a professional at the top of your game and you are a multiple major winner. (And despite my occasional blustery pro-Tiger rhetoric in other threads).

A lot of things have to happen for Tiger to win even one more major. Two of those things are he has to stay healthy, and he has to beat the very best of this game.

I think he has two majors, a Masters and an Open Championship, within his ability. But 4 or 5 more? At 42 years old, with his injuries? Hard to say.

One thing I know though, we'll all be watching closely.

I vote no for the first, just not enough chances left for him. Second seems to be a trick question.

Not a trick question at all, It was a completely honest question. I’ve seen people argue that even if Tiger breaks the record that Jacks 2nd place finishes keep him ahead, so I figured I should include it in the poll. Tiger is already the GOAT as far as I’m concerned. :)

# majors won in the history of golf, by age

43 6

44 3

45 2

46 2

48 1

Hogan won 3 in one year when he was 40 or 41.

And I wouldnt compare a health TW in his 40s to a general list of golfers. Especially given what a 42 year old TW has accomplished in one season after a 2 year layoff and spinal surgery.

Not saying its a slam dunk. But if he gets one early next year, the possibility is back on the table, I think.

Last year I would have said no way

Now, its almost worth entertaining.

If he wins the Masters or US Open next year. Im thinking he could get there for sure

2019 majors locations

Ha! Nice one ; )

I like how Jack has been answering this one for a few years. Something along the lines of "It's possible, but he's still got to go out and do it."

To me, I think it all depends on if/when he gets #15. I think it's a pretty big mental hurdle for him, but if he's able to clear it once again, AND the body allows him to play for a few more years after, then I think it's legitimately possible.

"If yes, does he become undisputed GOAT?" How could you answer NO to this question?

In that scenario, he would have more majors than Jack (let's say 19) and at current level he would have a minimum of 85 PGA Tour wins. If that's not the GOAT, there never was one.

It's no fun when the rabbit's got the gun.

While I agree with you, 4 people have voted No so far. I’d like to know what Tiger would have to do to be the GOAT for those people? 20 majors, 95 wins?

Up until this past week i gave Tiger ZERO chance of winning another Major. My reason?

I thought surely Rory, Dustin, JT, Rose, Spieth, etc. at least one of the top 10-15 players in the world would rise to the occasion and deny him the win. The Tour Championship is pretty close to a Major, they couldn’t close the deal. So Tiger may win another Major or two. He won’t pass Jack in my book though, we measure greatness by championships won in all sports. Golf is no different, Jack’s Major record is the GOAT. j m o
