Assuming he stays in form, Finau deserves a second crack at it. He seemed to settle in nicely after some shaky shots on Friday morning. I find his interviews very enjoyable, he seems like a first class guy, and I sensed he really enjoyed being there. If he doesn’t qualify on points he’d be a pick for me, again assuming he’s playing well.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Snedeker play his way back onto the team in two years. I loved his passion in 2016. I think this was sorely missed. I think his game is more suited to the European courses though.

Kevin Chappell is another one that has shown flashes throughout the year of really breaking through.

Phil out

Tiger out

Bubba out

Get a captain that isn't such a wanna-please-everyone and is a good leader.

They're habitual losers at the Team format and don't seem to show any resemblance of leadership. Phil is quirky and strange, Tiger is a recluse when things don't go well, and Bubba is just a tool that no one wants to be around.

I like Xander a lot, Finau also.

DJ, Brooks, JT, Spieth, Fowler, and Reed seem like a solid nucleus to build around. Add in Xander, Finau, and a few others if they're in form (Kyle Stanley, Webb, DeShampoo, Horschel, etc.)

younger guys - guys with some passion for the game

You need straight hitters for alternate shot and birdie machines for better ball

There's a lot of talk of experience ,,, and it seems to help Europe. But the experienced guys almost always play like dogs for the USA

Of the 12 US players, only Justin Thomas flew over and played the French Open at Le National. He went 4-1.

Tony Finau took a detour from the Open and played Le National, way before being captain's pick. He went 2-1.

Regardless of who's on the roster, I'd make it MANDATORY to be familiarized with the golf course. Easier at home, harder in Europe, but not impossible.

I love this take. If you're going to be one of my captain's picks I would make it known that you better familiarize yourself with the course being played. Let it be known that if you're a bubble guy you better make it a priority.

Excellent post.

If I were the next captain, I’d set up the course with zero rough and pick basically the same group that Furyk picked. Let the bombers and gougers have at it.

I’d also hope that DJ and Brooks showed a little interest in being there.

Not sure who I would pick, but I sure wouldn't have a ton of asst. captains. I don't want that many voices in my ear. I'd only have a couple, and they wouldn't be everyone's buddy. I'll tell those guys we are here to win, check your ego at the door, if you don't like it, hit the road. When the Carolina Hurricanes won the Cup, there was a sign on the way to the ice that said, "It's not about me, it's about the guy in front of me". I think the Europeans get that, and we don't.

Couple other guys that get hot and go super low sometimes are Na and Henley. Not sure if they have the sustained game to deserve a spot though.

I think it’s needs to be mostly young guys, closer to college golf so they are more used to the team concept. Maybe even throw the NCAA champ on the team, like they used to do for the dream team.

This was the running joke at the range on Saturday. Whoever the captain is, better make the fairways as wide as the driving range (football field width). The guy next to me said "better make it two just to be safe."

Certainly a lot of time before the next one and too many things that we do not even know right now, will change and affect it. But I will say that I did not like that Bubba and Webb were auto-qualifiers but hindsight, I am glad Webb did. He played well.

I think Furyk picked with his heart over his brain. Phil didn't deserve to be there and I think because of Phil, Bryson was picked. Bryson was not ready. Maybe it would have been different if it was on American soil where he had support. But he plays with too much emotion to get cheered when something goes wrong because he is so calculated. His mental game was not ready for the heckling. Much like Rahm, he even said himself, he had to tell himself to not get mad and let things affect him. Singles, he misses that putt on 16 to give Tiger another life, and piped the drive on 17. I do not think that happens in America. I think he gets rattled. But 2 years down the road, I think both of them will play great.

I'd like to see a team set up something along the lines of DJ, Koepka, JT, Spieth, Rickie, Finau, Xander, Berger, Stanley, Woodland. Space for 2 more. Whether it be Reed and Bryson or someone else.

Europe picked their players with something to prove. Poults, Casey, Sergio. USA did not.

If I were the captain, I would pick several WRX members to be vice captains.

Win or lose - I would make sure we had a good time.

I accept...and the team will include guys who want to play and putt like a Kevin Kisner. Enough of the guys with terrible losing records.

Agreed.

Guys with drive.

Do you want to be a vice captain Fergie? That guarantees no Phil on the team.

For an away game the US might need to start thinking outside the box a little.

A high profile analyst suggested picking players who fit the course (eg. players who hit fairways and are well ranked it total driving such as Keegan Bradley, Kyle Stanley etc.), that analyst got absolutely slaughtered on here even although his argument was well formed and he made the case very well.

Most people dismissed it without even reviewing the critical analysis that formed the case.

I would not pick Phil.

He dumped that ball in the water against Fran to end the match and end the Ryder Cup for one reason........so the spotlight (good or bad) would be on him.

A guy trying to get a half point would have hit that green no matter what. A winner always fights and never gives up. Right before the shot I turned to Mrs. Ferg and said, "he's going to hit a loose into the water and end it his way." He makes me angry.

And where was Amy? Giving hugs to the other wives.

LOL, Phil plays his way on to that team I want a documentary!

It wouldn't be a shock to see him as the team captain in 2020.

Dear God I hope not. Let him captain The President’s Cup instead.
